Stud Hitters - Keeper Trade

Postby dannahann » Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:42 pm

12T mixed 7x7 Keeper (extra hitting cats are Hits and OPS)
This one is tough for me to gauge, looking only at the future as niether of us will contend for the championship this season, which option looks better:

Miguel Cabrera 2011-2014 and Ryan Zimmerman 2011 only for Prince Fielder 2011-2013 and Joe Mauer 2011-2012.

All contracts are binding and players MUST be kept until their contracts expire. Into 2011 I will also have the following bats signed: Crawford 2011-2012, Utley 2011, Butler 2011-2012, Rasmus 2011.
Do I want 4 yrs of cabrera and 1 yr of Zimmerman or 3 yrs of Fielder and 2 yrs of Mauer?

post your roster please. value wise I'd say cabrera and zimmerman have the edge right now but for next year it hinges on your options at catcher and 3b in my opinion.

We do get to keep 2 free rookies too and as it presently stands mine will be a so-so 3B (Freese) and a highly touted but risky C who hasn't had an MLB AB yet, (Jesus Montero). Other than the guys in the trade the only bats I'll likely own into next year are the ones I listed originally, Rasmus Butler Crawford and Utley. There's an outside shot Granderson (contract expires 2010) won't draw a huge takeover bid and I'll be able to afford to match him but it's unlikely. I could opt to sign Delmon Young or maybe add a yr to Rasmus if Granderson (as I suspect is too expensive. There really aren't any other bats on my roster I won't throw back to the 2011 draft.

Personally, I like the idea of getting mauer for two years over zimmerman for one so I would roll the dice with the deal as it stands. However before you do that I would try a three for three. cabrera, zimm, rasmus for mauer, fielder, upgrade on rasmus.

play up the fact fielder is slumping and zimm and cabrera are outperforming fielder and mauer by a decent amount this season.

Thanks for all your help. I took your advice and stayed with Mauer and Fielder. FWIW you mentioned rolling Rasmus into it for someone else. His best remaining player was Grienke and I'm kind of thinking I'd rather keep Rasmus at this point. Is this the correct read? I'll also be keeping Lester and Liriano on the pitching side of things. The two additional P cats are HR Allowed and Losses. Unfortunately Greinke's team makes him a risk to lose more games than his talent warrants.

how long would you be able to keep greinke? I know his team is terrible but it's one category and he has more trade value than rasmus.
