Postby jarobert » Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:10 pm

9 Team Roto League that has the following pitching categories:

Wins (W), Losses (L), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Holds (HLD), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Strikeouts per Nine Innings (K/9)

Just announced that Hughes is being skipped in a effort to limit his innings.

The following pitchers are available on the wire:

Clay Buccholz
Barry Zito
Chad Billingsley
Colby Lewis
Scott Baker

What do you think? Drop him and for who?

do not drop hughes, but please post your roster. Clay Buchholz should not be on the waiver wire in any league and I'd like for you to grab him if possible.

Exactly. Don't drop Hughes. Billingsley shouldn't be on the waiver wire either, although I realize someone might have dumped him when he hit the DL.

I've wanted to grab Buccholz but there is no obvious drop. Also note the emphasis on strikeouts. Clay is less that a K per inning.

C: Miguel Montero
1B: Ryan Howard
2B: Robinson Cano
3B: Kevin Youkilis
SS: Jose Reyes
LF: Ryan Braun
CF: Josh Hamilton
RF: Andre Ethier
Util: Chris Young (CF), Brett Gardner (LF,CF)
BN: B.J. Upton (CF)
DL: Carlos Beltran (CF)

SP: Adam Wainwright, Ricky Romero, David Price, Francisco Liriano, Zack Greinke
RP: Jonathan Papelbon, Jon Rauch, Phil Hughes, Fernando Rodney, Kevin Gregg (RP)
BN: Brad Lidge (RP), Jaime Garcia (SP,RP

the obvious drop is fernando rodney for buchholz. he's still just a setup man. i'd cut him and lidge for buchholz and billingsley(especially if you can stash him on the DL).

As for the K/9 factor and buchholz, I understand your concerns, but his other numbers are way too good to leave on the wire.

Also, your only holds guy is rodney so it makes no sense to keep him when very good starting pitching is on the wire.

So punt holds? I've wanted to go that route for a while but does it make sense to just get no points for that category?

I would, you are going to finish near the bottom in that category with only one Middle reliever on your team. plus, with fuentes struggling he may move into the closers role for the angels killing his holds value anyways. How many points are you getting in holds with just rodney anyways?
