Howard for Verlander? WHIR baby!

Postby sweettortilla » Fri Jun 18, 2010 2:16 pm

What an opportunity! You get to help Sweet Tortilla make a huge decision that could really vault him to the top of his league! So, are you ready? Let’s do it.

The Facts
10 team, CBS Sportsline H2H league. Most everything is standard.
I’m the reigning champ. Get to keep five players from year to year (no other strings attached).
As you gaze longingly at my bats, you will see that I have a truly enviable offense. However, look down just a bit further, and you'll see the achilles arm of my team...my SPs.

What I’m Planning to Offer
I give: Ryan Howard, Bobby Abreu, Jon Rausch

I get: Verlander, Matt Kemp

Not sure if he’ll go for it, but want your opinion before I offer it up. Kemp is slumping a bit right now. Howard isn’t producing the big power, but we know he’s a second half HR guy. I figure Kemp becomes my keeper for next year (in Howards place). But do I dare let Howard and his 40+ HR per year go?

But I’m desperate for pitching.

You Can Help!
In fact, help me help you to help me. What do you think?

I think I go for it. you have plenty of power without Howard and you have Cabrera to play 1B. You also get Kemp who if he turns it around is a top 10 player as well. You definitely need the pitching help and this will help. Hopefully Street will be back soon to replace rauch for you. Really awesome offense.

I also agree to take the deal and agree with the points singles makes. Good trade

Go for it. Gettitng Matt Kemp back as well just makes this an easy decision, IMO. YOu have plenty of bats to deal from.

I'd still do the deal. Verlander upgrades you staff plus now is a great time to buy low on Kemp. You have Cabrera to play 1B. You are getting a 5 tool player in Kemp who I believe will turn it around.

Tulo has a broken wrist. Maybe that changes your decision? :-b

First, I wanna say that I greatly enjoy your writing style. I felt like an integral part of your team reading your post. I think you absolutely do this deal. Your offense can handle losing the power from Howard, even if it might be a little bit painful to watch him hit 25 hr the rest of the way. Verlander is a much needed upgrade to your SP. Additionally I think as for your keepers, I like Kemp a lot better than Howard, and see the 5 keepers being Cabrera, Wright, Tulo, Kemp, and Braun. All first round talents.
