McCutchen FOR Garza (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Wed Jun 16, 2010 11:48 pm

I am in a deep 15 team league, Auction Style, Fantasy Points. Players have 3 year contracts in our league, then become free agents. Been after "Cutch" for sometime, and finally I got the other owner lowering down the asking price (started out asking for Wainwright??? %-6 ). I feel like I have a strong enough pitching staff, (I already moved Pelfrey for Lind earlier in the season, which has blowen up in my face :-P ) Now I am moving Garza for Cutch? I hope I am not depleting my pitchers to much, I like having Volquez in my back pocket for the second half, who knows? I am losing depth @ Pitching, but remember this is a deep roster 15 team league. Lots of players are selected....etc.

I GET:
OF - A.McCutchen $20 (2) (one more year left after this year, @ that salary)

I TRADE:
SP - M.Garza $19 (1) (two years left after this season, @ that salary)
OF - F.Lewis $1 (1) (he needs an OF back, so I am willing to send him Lewis, who will probably losing playing time soon, when Snider returns)

MY STARTING ROSTER:
C - C.Santana $15(1) C - G.Soto $13(1)
1B - A.Pujols $44(3) 1B - V.Martinez $30(2)
2B - M.Prado $3(2) 2B - F.Sanchez $5(1)
3B - D.Wright $40(1) 3B - T.Glaus $1(1)
SS - S.Castro $8(1) SS - O.Cabrera $5(1)
OF - J.Bay $15(3) OF - G.Jones $5(2) OF - C.Hart $3(1) OF - A.Lind $2(3) OF - J.Borbon $3(2) OF - Delmon Young $1(1)
SP - A.Wainwright $18(2) SP - C.Carpenter $34(1) SP - M.Garza $19(1) SP - C.Lee $3(3) SP - J.Johnson $1(3) SP - T.Hudson $3(2) SP - J.Hammel $6(1) SP - C.Volstad $2(1)

BENCH: (max 6 guys on bench)
2B/SS/3B - O.Infante $3(1)
OF - J.Tabata $11(1)
OF - F.Lewis $1(1)
SP - J.Chacin $4(1)
SP - K.Correia $1(1)
RP - B.Lincoln $4(1)

IR:
1B - K.Morales $11(2) - done for the season - Big Loss
OF - C.Crisp $1(1) - should be back next week or two
OF - N.McLouth $1(3) - been brutal, now concussed
RP - R.Madson $5(1) - out another month
SP - E.Volquez $1(1) - great second half return??? never know.....

MINORS: (we are allowed 3, all of mine have been called up since the start of the season)
3B - P.Alvarez $5(2) - have to make room for him this week, since his callup ;-D

I think it's too much to give up. Try moving V-Mart instead. 3 catchers seems excessive, and you can find an equivalent player for lower cost at 1b to replace V-Mart.

Seeing as he only has one year left I think I would pass on it, too. I know it is tempting - he is a key piece of my team and I'm glad I get to keep him next year, too (which is the maximum you can hold any keeper in my league). He has the pop to eventually make a run at a 30/30 season, but that isn't going to be this year and probably not next year, either. On the flipside, that is a pretty strong rotation you have especially in a 15 team league. I don't know how important pitching is in your league - in my own it can make or break you. However, you have some guys at bargain basement prices that you are going to be losing in there so I think I'd stick with Garza all things considered.

I also think you should stand pat. You are solid as it stands right now. You have good OF depth. If Lind comes on you will be rock solid. Borbon is starting to hit again and hopefully will move up in the order within the next month.

good luck

thanks for help on mine

Depends. If you're competing this year, I'd make the move. I think McCutchen is worth more in a vacuum than Garza this season. But if the Morales injury has dropped you out of contention, then I wouldn't make the move. I'd rather have the extra year of Garza and try to make a run next year.

I too would make the move if you can win it all this year, which it looks like you can. You still have great pitchers in Lee, Johnson, Carp, and Wainwright. Cutch is too big of a talent to pass up here, even with your OF depth.

I always play for this year first and worry about next year...next year, even in a keeper, but that's just me. Of course, that is also if you are "in it". If you are making that push, then yes, do this deal. You have enough pitching depth to afford the loss of Garza. Even in a 15 team league, I'm sure there are some descent "fringe" pitchers out there that you could play the matchups and stream when necessary. I always go for hitters over pitchers anyway given that they contribute more to your overall outcome since they play everyday and often impact more scoring categories. This is not a bad deal, and I can see the reservation, but I'd probably move forward with the deal and not worry about it. Thanks for the help on mine.

I think you can afford the lose of Garza with your pitching staff. I think he might be a little more valuable than McCutchen though, especially bc he has an extra year left. I'd lean towards not making the trade because overall I'm against losing value on trades but I think with your roster it might make sense, so i don't think it would be stupid trade either.

i think when you look at the contract situation i'd rather have garza locked up for 2 yrs than mccutchen for 1 yr. i say stick with garza, maybe try the VMart thing or someone else if you REALLY love McCutchen. thanks for the help!

Bump PLEASE ADVISE

Garza is getting lit up like a Christmas Tree tonight, anybody changing there minds, here..... I am really looking to pull the trigger. He has been awful for 3-4 weeks, after his stellar start to the seasons. Remember I get McCutchen as a keeper next year @ $20 well below market value. Pitchers are just so tricky to predict.
