What's your problem with Cal? Better Cal than Jeter/Arod and many others IMO.

Wait a second....You really think Cal was a better SS than Jeter or A-Rod (the best offensive SS in baseball history)? wow...

Better than Jeter? How can you possibly hate on Jeter? I really don't understand? Is it simply because he plays in the Yankees organization? Does that allow you discredit his hall of fame career and his absolute professionalism? Just, wow...

This is about favorite (not best). Aqua for some reason dislikes Cal (and that's fine) but imo larkin and Cal are 1A and 1B (for me) in this poll. Jeter is not one of my favorites because a) he plays for the Yankees b) as an opposing fan he has a certain arrogance about him (just my opinion). this has nothing to do with his ability and value to the Yankees.

Says the guy who voted for A-Roid.

You mean the greatest offensive shortstop in baseball history and the best shortstop as well as player on the world champion Yankees. Also, he's likely to retire as the all-time homerun king. Yes.

Yet the greatest defensive shortstop in baseball history can be reduced to "backflips". Sorry he doesn't hit enough dingers for you.

You must mean Omar Vizquel and not Ozzie Smith as the greatest defensive SS in baseball history.

Big Pimpin wrote:TotalZone, as described here. It's the defensive metric used in Chone's historical WAR database.

TZ- TotalZone, a measure of defensive range based on analysis of retrosheet play by play data. For seaons before 1953, and the 1953 American League, This measure is based on a much cruder formula called JAARF (Just another adjusted range factor.) which estimates defensive ratings from assists, putouts and errors, as well as team hits allowed by lefthanded and righthanded pitchers.

:-P

1. saying a player was better defensively because of this is quite interesting.

2. liking a player better because of hearsay from people that know much less about baseball players as a whole is also interesting. to each their own, I suppose..
