Youk and V-Mart for Wainwright and Montero (WHIR)

Postby toobitter » Wed Jun 16, 2010 1:48 pm

10 team head to head ESPN mixed league

so i recently nabbed both buster posey and carlos santana. now i've got 3 catchers on my roster with victor martinez. i've been shopping posey around and for some reason, nobody seems to be biting.
i'm desperate for another ace as pitching is my major weakness.

i've been throwing out offers and i just received two counters, however, both guys want v-mart instead.
i'm not really too interested in dealing him, but i wanted to get your guys' opinion on both offers.

the one i would actually think about is
I get Adam Wainwright and Miguel Montero
He gets Victor Martinez and Kevin Youkilis

the other offer is a tad ridiculous but the guy is kind of an idiot
I get Johan Santana, Corey Hart and Mike Napoli
He gets V-Mart aaaaand Joey Votto???

i currently have a plethora of 1B and don't have a major problem dealing somebody like Youk (despite the fact that i'm a die hard sox fan).

but i feel like i can't put all my eggs in one basket with two unproven rookie catchers. do you think there's a decent counter that involves swapping in maybe 2 players for martinez?

also, can you think of any decent starting pitching that i might be able to do a 1 for 1 for posey straight up?

here's my current roster

C - C. Santana
C/1B - V. Martinez
C/1B - B. Posey
1B - P. Fielder
1B - J. Votto
1B - L. Berkman
1B/3B - J. Cantu
2B/3B - I. Stewart
2B/1B/3B - M. Prado
3B/1B - K. Youkilis
SS - R. Furcal
SS - S. Drew
SS - J. Rollins (DL)
OF - S. Victorino
OF - T. Hunter
OF - M. Byrd
OF - M. Ramirez
OF - C. Rasmus

SP - T. Lincecum
SP - M. Garza
SP - C. Lewis
SP - J. Niese
SP - J. Vazquez
RP - R. Soriano
RP - D. Aardsma
RP - B. Lidge

You are loaded with 1B indeed ... I like that Youk deal so long as Montero's reason for being on the DL is definitely a thing of the past and not likely recurring.

I don't think I would do this. I think that you are giving too much to land Wainwright.

Posey is still an unproven commodity, despite the hot hitting so far, so a 1-for-1 will only land you a #3 tier SP, IMO.

I can totally understand wanting Wainwright, but this is too much to give up.

It's a bit pricey for the deal. Wainwright is good, but not that good.

I think you're giving up too much. You definitely have more than enough catchers and first baseman, so I'd shop them around because your pitching is weaker. Montero is good but a downgrade and although he's not a rookie, he's still a less proven player than V-Mart. Wainwright's one of the best but I just think Youk AND V-Mart is too much. You have some position players to move so put them on the trading block and someone will make a better deal for a pitcher.

At first glance, I'd say Youk and V Mart is way too much for Wainwright and Montero. However, your roster type doesnt look that standard. Is the waiver wire really barren? No hitters? No pitchers? I think if you posted some of the type of players available, we'd be able to give you a better answer. Another option you could try for with your team is to see what the market is like for Lincecum. Maybe package Lincecum and one of your catchers for 2 top 15 - 20 pitchers or something.

Please help with mine. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=415022
