Erick Aybar - hyperextended knee

MRI revealed damage to his meniscus. He will be re-evaluated Friday.. You would think a trip to the DL is imminent but if they haven't done it yet perhaps he will try to play next week

The Angels are off tomorrow (Thursday), go to Chicago for 3 and then get another off day Monday. Perhaps the Halos plan to go without him this weekend but bring him back Tuesday (giving him about a full week of rest).. If not they can place him on the DL retroactively???

Angels manager Mike Scioscia believes that Erick Aybar (knee) will not need to go on the disabled list as he recovers from a hyperextended knee.
Scioscia also told reporters that the team wouldn't know for sure about Aybar's status for a few more days. Aybar is hitting .272/.336/.352 in 64 games for the Angels.

The Angels will decide Tuesday whether or not Aybar (knee) needs to be placed on the disabled list, the LA Times reports. The swelling in Aybar's knee has subsided and he said there only "a little" pain. It sounds like Aybar will either start on Tuesday or head to the DL, so the Angels' lineup should reveal the answer if the team does not do so prior.

SS Erick Aybar was re-examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum Tuesday and received a cortisone injection in his hyperextended left knee. Aybar, who was injured June 14, did only light workouts over the weekend. He will be re-evaluated again on Thursday, and a DL move is looking more likely again.

SS Erick Aybar received a cortisone injection in his injured left knee Tuesday. After two days without any activity, Aybar tested the knee with a full workout before Thursday's game and pronounced himself 100 percent and ready to play. "I feel good," Aybar said. "I think maybe (Friday I could play). I don't know, we'll see what the manager says." Aybar's workout Thursday included straight-line running, batting practice and defensive drills including moving laterally to field groundballs. He will test his knee again Friday and add some baserunning to the workout, but Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he expects Aybar to play in some capacity during the weekend series against the Rockies.
