How Can I improve My Team? WHIR!

Postby CharlieJoe » Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:25 am

Hey, this is my first post here, and I'm hoping I can get a general feel on what people think about my team. I am currently in second place, 5.5 games back of first in a 20 team league. The league is a keeper league where most players are kept. What I hope to accomplish in posting this is to discover, what does my team need improvement wise, and what should I change?

So far, I'm pretty confident in my team. Fielder and Teixeira have been disappointing this year and Carlos Quentin isn't THIS bad. I see my offense getting much better as the season drags along, and my pitching hopefully wont regress too much.

However, one player I do want to sell high on is Adrian Beltre. As a Mariner fan, I know he's not this good and his .367 BABIP suggests the same. I think I could get a decent return for him, but I'm not sure where I should look. I can replace Beltre with Pedro Alvarez (I have him locked up as a minor leaguer) so he's easy for me to move. Should I go for a left fielder to replace Quentin? Should I go for another closer to solidify that stat for most match-ups (2 closers in a 20 team league can go a long way), but maybe I should just wait Hoffman out. I could also move Beltre for a minor league player if the opportunity presents itself. You can assume that pretty much everyone in the BA Top 100 has been taken in this league. The minor leaguers I currently have the rights to are...

C Jason Castro, SP Mike Montgomery, CF Donavan Tate, CF Tyson Gillies, SP Martin Perez, C Bryce Harper, 3B Pedro Alvarez, SS Tim Beckham

Give me some names to look into. I couple guys I'm currently looking at are Brett Cecil, Mike Stanton (doubtful), Desmond Jennings, Chase Headley, Jeremy Hellickson, Colby Rasmus, Josh Hamilton, Garrett Jones, Jason Bay, Matt Garza, Clayton Kershaw, etc.

Some of those guys are pipedreams, but you never know what can happen. I got Beltre for Romon Troncoso in a trade I thought would be rejected for sure, so anything can happen... Anyways, what do you guys think is fair value for Beltre and who do you think I could add to get some of the more prestigious players? Feel free to add some players of your own you think would benefit my team.

Anyways, here's my team, thanks for the help and I'd be happy to offer my opinion for anyone else if needed.

You need help at RP, but I don't know if I would trust Alverez enough to trade away Beltre. Can you get a middle tier RP and a 3B in return?

Please help;

I agree that the change from Beltre to Alvarez could hurt your team. Beltre is having a nice year. Sure he is bound to regress some, but should still be pretty solid. Alvarez could bomb and hurt you. Great to have in reserve, but not as a starter just yet.

good luck

thanks for help with mine

I'm not worried about the possible drop in production from Beltre to Alvarez as Teix and Fielder among others should regain form and make up for his possible absence in production. Thanks for the suggestions on what positions to focus on. Adding one more closer could really make a big difference for my team. Does anyone have any suggestions on which who I should go after?

Ended up moving Adrian Beltre, Francisco Cerevelli, and Trever Miller for Brian Wilson, Craig Breslow, and Rich Harden. It's a risk, and hopefully it will pan out.
