Is Alfredo Simon the closer again?

Postby krunchyfrogg » Mon Jun 14, 2010 9:51 am

I need a boost in Saves. Is he going to close for the O's?
Looking forward to back to back championships in 2011!

I'm not sure because it seems like Juan Samuel is speaking politician double talk. One day he says that Simon is still the guy when he returns but the next day he says Hernandez is the guy he wants in there on the rare days that the Orioles actually have a lead in the 9th inning. I'm leaning towards Hernandez as the closer but, at the end of the day, does it really matter in O-land?

The way I took it is If Simon doesn't blow his 1st or 2nd appearance he'll likely see the majority of the saves again. Then again David H could just as easily lose his tenuous grip on the role by an implosion too. ;-7

I have both in a couple of leagues, and I'm keeping Simon in reserve until he actually gets one game as closer. Until then, I'll use Hernandez...

Does anyone know why Simon was not credited with a save last night? He got the final out in the O's 6 - 3 win.

per mlb.com:
Saves:
Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states:
Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or
- (c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.

He came in for only 1 out and a 3 run lead w/ no one on base
