Carlos Santana

I can get Carlos Santana on the eve of his debut in my 12-team near dynasty (keep up to 10 prospects and also 22 MLB players):

The deal is my:

Derek Norris, Grant Green, and 4 (!) prospect picks

4 his:

Carlos Santana, Stephen Drew, Martin Perez, and Casey Crosby

It's essentially upgrading my bench from Aramis/Fowler to these guys (with Aramis on the DL, I have room for Drew, and when it's time to call up Santana, I could drop Fowler).

And it's admitting that I was probably wrong on Green b4 his value drops. The C and SS sides look like clear winners, and I'm ok with turning 2 picks into those risky but talent pitchers.

However, I paid Jeter, Chris Perez, Rasmus, Porcello, and Tim Beckham for Hanley alone last year at this time. I can't help but feel that I could offer 3-4 prospect picks (we each get 3 but I've traded to have 6 total now) for a bigger star than Santana.

What do you think of this one? Full team here:

C: McCann
1B: Morneau
2B: Weeks
3B: A-Rod
SS: Hanley
LF: Holliday
CF: Rasmus
RF: Bruce
UTIL: Dunn
UTIL: Heyward
BN: Rajai, Beckham, Fowler
DL: Aramis

SP: Roy, CC, Johan, Wainwright, Ubaldo, Gallardo, Oswalt
RP (holds in): Mo, K-Rod, Neftali, Qualls, Braddock, Contreras
DL: Madson, Jordan Zimmermann

Prospects: Hak-Ju Lee, Shelby Miller, Grant Green, Derek Norris, Eric Young, Jr., Junichi Tazawa, Jared Mitchell, Miguel Sano

I don't think I can be of much help here, as I have no idea who about half of those names are. That being said, from what you say about the deal you made last year, you ought to be able to land a slightly bigger arm than Sanatana.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help on mine, but I really can't help you out. Anything I say would be blowing smoke out my butt. I don't do leagues that deep or with use of prospect picks.

I would definitely do it if you think you can win this year or next year. If you need a few years to build which, judging by the nice collection of talent I don't think is the case, you will want those picks. Like you said, you are getting some highly touted arms back in the deal as well, although Perez has been scuffling and is probably 3 years away from the Majors (plus, he will have to pitch in a hitter's park).

I would also consider shopping those 4 picks around to someone else if they are as valuable as you say. Someone might be willing to give you more.

Thanks for the help with mine.

A couple questions: How long can you keep the prospects? And would Santana still be considered one next year?

I think getting Perez is probably worth 2 of the 4 picks you would be giving up as the kid is a stud. And personally, I think it's worth missing out on a Pomeranz/Harvey/Ranaudo/Cox type player for Santana & Drew by giving up the other picks.

help?

To keep Santana and Drew, I would be forced to pass on Weeks/Zimmerman/Qualls/Oswalt types.

It's hard to filter through the prospects to get top talent. This year, I drafted guys like Sano/Mitchell/Miller/Norris......You could use their names as the tradees here if it helped.

As others have said, this is a very tricky trade. I would stay put though. I have heard good things about Norris, and while Santana is going to be a stud, the four picks are tough to lose.

I don't mind the deal especially if Santana stays behind the plate (I'm assuming Carlos Santana C prospect for the Indians)
