Ian Kinsler what happened to this guy???

Postby The Cow » Tue Jun 08, 2010 9:05 pm

Looking to trade for Kinsler, but is he healthy? Last year he was a 30/30 guy and this year he has all of 1 HR and 4 SBs! I heard something about an injury to Kinsler does anyone know what kind of injury? Is Kinsler a good buy low or is he doing a Grady Sizemore? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think he is going "Sizemore" I think he is still getting into form and probably not playing at 100% yet.

I'm starting to wonder myself. He's having a good game so far tonight. Kinsler has been really bad of late. I don't understand it myself. Maybe rounding into form coming off his injury? Hope so!

I traded J.Morneau, C.Utley, C.Carpenter and F.Cordero in my Keeper League for J.Votto, J.Mauer, I.Kinsler and M.Rivera. That was when Kinsler was still 2 weeks away from coming back. I rolled the dice on him. Still not giving up hope. The guy did have a 30/30 season last year. He is still fairly young.

Kinsler, if I'm remembering past years of owning him, is one of the streakiest players in the game. He actually was hitting pretty well for his first couple of weeks off the DL, though his power wasn't there yet (likely due to the injury and getting back to speed). Now, he's going through one of his normal slumps.

He won't go 30/30, that's for sure, but I think 20/20 is still likely. Plus he'll score a million runs. Arlington Summer and all.

Keep in mind, his DL stint at the beginning of the season was for a dreaded high ankle sprain. Athletes are typically slow to recover from this type of injury. Just prior to coming off the DL he admitted that the injury could linger and he may play at less than 100% for the remainder of the season.

That said, he does have a tendency to be streaky and just like most other Rangers he is much better at home. I'd bet he starts to turn in on here midseason and is a guy worth buying low.

After hitting .322 in the past 3 years with RISP, he has posted a feeble .216 mark this year. His HR/FB ratio is at a measly 2.1%, more than 7% off his career total. These are some of the stats that I expect to regress back to the mean. He is a talented ball player, 20/20 is still possible. And hitting in that 3 spot with the Rangers will have him covered pretty well in R/RBI opportunities.

In my 16 team league I took him in the first round (#11). At the time I didn't know the severity of the ankle injury. Since he's been back, he's been the worst player of my 9 starters as far as adding up all the counting stats (R, HR, RBI, SB) per at-bat goes.

His statement earlier this year that he's not trying to hit for HRs but hitting for BA instead ("makes me a better hitter") has reduced his value horribly. Given the bandbox he plays in, there has to be an improvement in the second half, surely?

Exactly. Kinsler isn't 100%. He will be though.
