Trade - Jenks for Berkman? WHIR

Postby jacktowner » Tue Jun 08, 2010 10:51 am

I have 4 closers currently:
Papelbon
Jenks
Lidge
Qualls

As I stand now, I can afford to play only 3 of them on any given day (my league scores holds, so I use 2 P slots for those pitchers). So, I'm left with the decision to either trade away a closer for a hitter or I can drop one of my very good holds guys for Sean Marshall (who has SP eligibility) and play all 4 closers, though I will take a hit in the holds category. I'm in 7th place in holds, so I'd rather not drop either of my holds pitchers (Adams and Kuo), plus I could some better hitting. I also have Jose Contreras for holds now that Lidge is back, and he has SP eligibility as well so I will probably hang on to him.

I tried trading Qualls away, but he's been too iffy for anyone to bite. I was countered with this offer for Jenks. Is it a gamble worth taking?

Leave a link, WHIR

I'd do the deal ... Jenks is going down and Berkman is going up, plus he may get traded.

Yep, I do it too! Berkman has been on a tear of late. I think Jenks is too shaky this year.

I don't think Berkman is going up per se but I also don't think he is in danger of losing his job, whereas Jenks, if he continues to be shaky, may. You seem solid in saves and can take the gamble I think.

This is an easy trade. Take it and don't look back. I would do this even if Jenks wasn't going to lose the closers job in a month.

I pulled the trigger - thanks reassuring what my gut was telling me.

I'm also thinking about picking up Aaron Heilman as a handcuff in case Qualls loses his closer role - I may take a hit in the holds department, but I can worry about that later while I monitor the closer situation.
