the astros's second first round selection said he was commited to UT. how does this work?
do we maintain his rights until he leaves college? im confused.
i hope this doesnt mean we just wasted a pick bc we didnt want to pay someone first round money again(as ive heard that the stros like to not sign their early round picks)

If you don't get him signed by by Aug 15(or whatever the exact date is), then you get to pick again in the same spot next year. You completely lose rights to that guy though if he isn't signed, though they could pick him again in a later draft.
Loved the Sox draft. Vitek, Brentz and Ranaudo were all top 25 picks by most publications. Brentz was a steal for where he fell and Ranaudo, if his elbow checks out and they can sign him, can be as well. Keith Law had him as the #1 picher in the draft before his health issues.

They had a great draft. They got Baseball America's 19th best prospect (Kolbrin Vitek), 20th best prospect (Brandon Workman), 27th best prospect (Anthony Ranaudo), 29th best prospect (Bryce Bentz), and 46th best prospect (Garin Cecchini).
Nice haul.
Oh and they drafted a guy named Kendrick Perkins.

the player has until mid august to sign or else he goes to college. And the Astros wouldn't retain his rights but they would the same number pick in the draft next year.
OK so I'm not sure what to make of this, but apparently Harper is talking on Facebook about going back to college.
As far as I can tell, these are the real Facebook pages for Machado and Harper.
I also question the wisdom of the Orioles drafting a guy that says stuff like "but ya nigga ily to no homo ur my biffle haha later man.. cnt stop thinkin gof how nasty we will be".

His Facebook page is public. Look at his status updates, almost every single sentence has at least two exclamation points in a row. I hope for the Nationals that the 15 year old girl in his mind doesn't seep to his power hitting.
