I have seen worse in more important situations.

"I do not think baseball of today is any better than it was 30 years ago... I still think Radbourne is the greatest of the pitchers." John Sullivan 1914-Old athletes never change.

As a former umpire myself, I feel bad for Joyce. He knew he made a mistake almost immediately, and unfortunately, couldn't take it back. And even if he apologizes, there's no real way to make it up to Galarraga. What a terrible and unfortunate way to end a game.

The only good thing that will happen here is that this will probably the last straw for no replay.
i absolutely hope you're right
but we'll probably get the effing pitch timer before that

Galarraga, who started his MLB career with the Rangers three years ago, said in a postgame interview on Fox Sports Detroit (and shown on MLB Network) that Joyce apologized to him and that they hugged. Wow. He said Joyce was clearly upset about it and Galarraga was nice about saying that umpiring isn’t easy and that everyone makes mistakes. Jim Leyland also fielded questions well and didn’t fall into any traps about blasting Joyce. They said what they wanted on the field and that was it.

Props to Galarraga for his reaction. Very classy.
Anyone see Jim Leyland's post game interview? Very well spoken.

Dave Cameron hits it on the head.
And it's why the strengths and weaknesses of one single man should never determine the outcome of such a play. There is no argument against instant replay.
