Would you trade Jayson Werth for Carl Crawford?

Postby CJV123 » Mon May 31, 2010 6:52 am

OK, I play in a 14-team 4x4 keeper league. I have Jayson Werth at a salary making him a keeper for next year, and I have been offered Carl Crawford (high, non-keeper salary) for Werth, straight up.

I'm in first place and I'm playing to win this year, but not stupidly so.

Crawford would offer me AVG and SB while keepinig Werth would offers me HR and RBI.

Our league plays OF positions, so Werth has extra value as CF-eligible.

If Werth gets back to where he has been, esp. if he starts running, then I should not do the deal. But I'm a bit nervous about Werth- some suggest Werth has been "lucky" and was due for this downturn.

Finally, Werth is a Free Agent end of this year and will leave Philly, likely slightly lowering his keeper value.

Id be inclined to make this deal but for this season alone I think Werth is still the better bet, if you could keep Crawford then Id definetly go Crawford but if im reading you correctly youre saying that you cant.

I am keeping Werth....especially since you say you can keep Werth next year, but probably couldn't keep Crawford.

I like how you are thinking that you may be willing to lose some long term if it means winning now (too many people don't do this), but your instincts are right that this isn't one of those trades.

Stick with Werth

Thanks for the replies.

I went ahead and did the deal. I'm pretty strict with guys tanking AVG with no SBs and I'm not going to make an exception for Werth. I'm "Texas Hedged", though, because I like Werth real-world and if he comes back I'll be happy for him.

Last week, I traded Teixeira non-keeper for Zobrist keeper, for the same reason (AVG/SB), so payroll-wise I'm at the same place, albeit very long Tampa Bay now. :)

I would have probably kept worth for his power, but I can justify it either way. Good luck. ;-D
