Have Posey. Time to drop Soto?

Postby Peloquin » Sun May 30, 2010 5:37 pm

Question says it all. Posey's tearing it up just like AAA. Standard H2H league. Thanks for the help.

Posey isn't only tearing it up in AAA he's also in a small sample size tearing it up in AAAA. I made the move for him today and did exactly what you're contemplating, i dropped Soto for him.

i'm in a 10 team league, so once you get outside the 7-8 C that all teams on the picking is slim but not terrible. Here's my rationale on dropping Soto (though he did go deep today).
1) Soto hits at the back of below average CHC lineup, but then again Posey will likely hit 6-7 in a nothing to write home about SF lineup
2) Soto has been struggling lately, Posey has been hitting better and better in AAA and now proving it in AAAA
3) if Posey busts, and Soto is scooped up, I still have Carlos Santana soon to be called up

please help

Depends on the size of the league...in a 10/12 team league, sure. A bigger league, I'd hold onto Geo or try to trade him if you can.

Yeah , I hear you. I live just outside Fresno and have been watching Posey for awhile. Can't really see him being a bust. Just looks like the real thing. Thanks for the reply. Btw, this is a 12 team league.

I'm in the same place as you, and my thinking echoes one of the above responders:

Posey will be getting most of his playing time, from the sounds of things, at 1B. Which means not only will soon gain dual eligibility, but he'll be able to focus on hitting more instead of learning his staff and working game plans.

Posey is already batting higher in the order than Soto, and seems positioned to make a move up the order soon.

Posey was brought up with the declaration that he'd would be playing at least 5 times a week, which is about as much as Geo owners can bank on anyhow, with Koyie Hill receiving roughly 1/4 of the the at bats at C this year, between starts for Koyie and Lou PH for Soto.

I still have both on my team now (12 team H2H) but I've rarely carried 2 Cs on my team over the years, and with both DL slots emptying this week, Soto looks to be dead man walking on my team.

You have to find somebody who will bite on him or you'll be giving up a producing catcher to somebody for free. Get something at least even if you sell low.
