Please help me select which catcher to go with in a big money league/salary cap game; the catchers I'm interested in are listed below along with their salaries (note: I'm already taking LeCroy for 480)
Who's the best value? Do you see any steals?
Please advise.
(P.S. I'm trying to go cheap on this category if I can)
I have Castro as a sleeper, and he's dirt cheap. But I would look at Craig Wilson from Pit. He could qualify as a catcher, and would probably be cheap - he could be SUPER value (IF he qualifies). Paul LoDoca and Pierzysnki would also be good choices depending on the price.
If you want to spend money, I would take Piazza over Lopez or Posada.
If these are your only choices, I would go with Phillips. He should post very solid numbers. I wouldn't be suprised to see 295/18/85/10SB. For the money he is your best bet. If LeCroy is available i would go with him.
Pick up Phillips for value. The guy is just a very solid hitter. He can easily hit .300 for ya, with perhaps a little bit of pop <10-15 HRs maybe>. Plus, he shouldn't sit much like other catchers do since he should be alternating between first and catcher with Piazza.
Here's the full list...as I stated in my original post, Lecroy is a lock in my lineup. I wanted Craig Wilson but he is not C eligible in this league (cdmsports.com/diamondchallenge). I had Piazza on the squad for a while but recently dumped him for the much-cheaper Castro...now I'm thinking about getting Piazza back.
Any other great values out of the full-list here?
Please advise.
Thanks.

Though I am also a CDM player, and am already using the grand prize as collateral on my new home loan, I'll give you a winning strategy since you're a fellow Cafe' member.....
At catcher, draft Hundley and Osik. That'll leave you plenty of cap room to get some young pitching phenoms...Jesse Foppert & Runyelvis Hernandez for instance.

nice one Jefe...you're talking to last year's 4th place co-winner ($5,000) out of 6,000 people...Dirty Sanchez.
Ah yes, the great Todd Hundley, due to take back his HR's by a catcher record from Javi...haha!!
