I don't think either one of them is Top 100 for next year right now, so not going to be protected. For this year, I'd take Smoak, as he's already starting.

Are there a lot of prospect junkies in your league?

Smoak and Alvarez are taken in my league.

yes, me being one of them...

im a young player qunkie. this year i have mike leake, ike davis, david freese, cahill and jamie garcia. because of my young bucks my squad is currently in 1st place. if i was to acquire Pedro Alvarez i would drop Justin Smoak. Homeruns are king in my league, it doesnt look like Smoak can hit for average, if thats the case i might as well take a shot with alvarez who is the SEC HR champ

Smoak over Alvarez for their careers. As for right now, Alvarez doesn't look like he is going to be in the majors anytime soon as his K rate is very high and BA is low. I like both going forward but it could take them some time to figure things out at the ML level. Smoak has shown the better eye at the plate, moderate power and should become a top 5 1st baseman at some point.
