Who to drop when Brett Anderson comes back?

Postby jfg » Thu May 27, 2010 9:53 pm

Who on earth do I drop when he comes off the DL? I can only carry 8 starters.

Liriano
Billingsley
Braden
Cueto
Baker
Wa. Rodriguez
Latos
Leake

Thanks!

Leake or Wandy IMO.....maybe even Baker although he's looked solid lately.

I maybe in the minority here, but how about Dallas Braden? If it wasn't for the no no (hitter) perfect game. We are looking at a pitcher who is .500 on the season and an ERA over 4?

I like everyone else on that list the rest of the season then Braden? Maybe try trading him (Braden) to an owner who is believing in the hype.

I would drop Braden. He can be a decent starter, but I think he'll take a step back.

Braden has pitching in Oakland and in the AL West (Seattle, LAA) in his favor, and it's not as if he's completely out of nowhere this year.....he had a QS% that matched Johan Santana last year. He's not the sexiest option but he's consistent and won't really hurt you.

If it's a redraft I'd shop Latos now before he hits Philly and Toronto.

Drop would be Braden.
I'm sure there are equivalents to Braden on the wire, so you won't lose much.

Why is everyone so high on Leake over Braden? Am I missing something? Braden has a better FIP and xFIP, pitches in a pitching haven, not a bandbox and has a walk rate that's less than half of what Leake's is. Anybody really think Leake is going to continue to sport a 7.3 HR/FB while pitching in Cincinnati, especially when his K/BB ratio is less than 2? I know he's pitched well as a rookie, but seriously?

I'm exploring trade options for Braden and Leake. I don't think Latos has enough hype yet to really make a killing in a trade, I think I'd have a better chance of kicking myself for the trade I'd make than patting myself on the back. It is a keeper but only one pitcher is retained and I'm hoping that would be Liriano. I have Olivo right now at catcher with Santana in the waiting seat. Does Braden for Napoli seem like a good move? Then I'd just dump Olivo when Anderson comes off the DL.

You could try moving Cueto right now too after a couple excellent starts against crappy teams. He's shown flashes before but never seems to be able to sustain long term success. It's debatable that his value might never be higher than it is right now.
