Need to trade for a Closer!

Postby seahawks506 » Wed May 26, 2010 4:52 pm

So my team has been doing pretty good so far this year, in fact it's 1st place right now. This is my first year, and I haven't made any trades so far but I need a good closer. I drafted Jenks and Aardsma, but both haven't really worked out and right now I have Aardsma and Contreras. I've targeted a team that needs offensive help and happens to have 68 combined saves so far. this is a 5:5 roto.
my roster:
C McCann, Wieters
1B A. Gonzalez, M. Cabrera, Cantu
2B Ian Stewart, K. Johnson
3B M. Young, Stewart, Cantu
SS Andrus, Furcal
OF- Braun, Justin Upton,McCutchen, Hawpe, Rios, F. Gutierrez
SP- Felix, Gallardo, Jimenez, Hamels, Oswalt, Billingsley, Latos, Penny (DL)
RP- Aardsma, Contreras

His team:
C Joe Mauer, Min C, DH
1B Paul Konerko, CWS 1B
2B Ian Kinsler, Tex 2B
3B Placido Polanco, Phi 2B, 3B
SS Miguel Tejada, Bal SS, 3B
2B/SS Rickie Weeks, Mil 2B
1B/3B Lance Berkman, Hou 1B
OF Johnny Damon, Det OF, DH
OF Austin Jackson, Det OF
OF Denard Span, Min OF
OF Brennan Boesch, Det OF
OF J.D. Drew, Bos OF DTD
UTIL Mark Reynolds, Ari 3B, 1B
P Roy Halladay, Phi SP
P Zack Greinke, KC SO
P Clayton Kershaw, LAD SP
P Dallas Braden, Oak SP DTD
P Jeff Niemann, TB SP
Bench Stephen Strasburg, Was SP
Bench Austin Kearns, Cle OF
DL Jimmy Rollins*, Phi SS DL15
I left out his closers to list them here: Soriano, Papelbon, Rauch, Gregg, Capps. Obviously he needs some help at the middle infield spots and I have some depth there. What kind of offer should I make? I could also pick up Qualls or Dotel who are currently available.
Thanks!

Why help him in maybe three or four catagories when you only gain one with saves? If you are in first place how many points would you gain by getting one more closer? How many would you lose with the player or players you trade away? I have three closers and I'm in last in saves but on .5 point out of first overall. If I trade for another closer I will only gain maybe two to three points. But I would lose in either offense or in Wins. Era, K's and Whip. Stay pat and see if you can find somebody on the WW. Just try to be quick. maybe grab Olhman. He got his first save.

Well he's in 7th place and competition is really tight at the moment, I'm in first by 2 pts and 2nd and 3rd are right on my tail and happen to be 2nd and 3rd in saves. so if I got more saves (currently 6th) that would help me a lot.

Thats what you have to look at. How many points would you move up with one more closer? How close are you in the other catagories. How many points are you ahead of the next guy in saves. Does losing offense help the guys that are on your tail get closer or over take you?
Again. saves is just ONE catagory. I think too many people put too much into saves. I would rather have more points in all of the other areas.

I'm doing good in all the other categories so I would like to give up a little bit of my depth in offense to get that one category up with a top closer. Do you think Furcal for Soriano would be fair?
