Because the reality is wayyy less exciting than the drawing.

The planet is mostly gas now, and it's simply evaporating its mass out into the sun's gravitational field. I'd be surprised if you can see anything at all.

I've looked at hundreds of fuzzy astronomy pics, and you can see something if you know what you're looking at.
