Drop Jay Bruce for Napoli?

Postby jake_twothousandfive » Sun May 23, 2010 5:37 pm

This is a 10 team H2H 5x5 redraft league: HR, SB, RBI, BA, OPS; W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

I need a second catcher with Soto playing so poorly right now. There are three players I'm considering dropping: Jay Bruce, Hunter Pence, Kelly Johnson. Jay Bruce has looked much better lately, but his BABIP doesn't look to be sustainable based on his career average and it looks like there are many things he still needs to work on to fulfill his massive hype (K%, BB%, Contact rates, etc.). Hunter Pence seems to be getting back on track and is a solid contributer across the board in my league (counting OPS instead of runs helps his value in relation to Bruce). Johnson I don't think is droppable yet given what he did early in the season.

Leave a link and I'll return the favor. ;-D

I'd rather suffer Soto sorting himself out then risk losing Bruce.
However, if you are deadset on cutting one of them, Bruce is the one.

I think Bruce just reminds me too much of Chris Davis for me to really buy into his upside at this point. It's possible that one or both of them still turn into offensive superstars but at this point I'm not seeing it.

Anyone else? Leave a link.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you with the same Catcher scenario, but I say this: What place are you in at the present time? None of these players are keepers?

I wouldn't cut any for Napoli. Soto and Napoli are about a push. Cueto and AJ are drops.

3rd place. This is a redraft league. No one can be kept.

Well man you said it best yourself. Scocia's obsession with Mathis. Napoli is a streaky hitter too much for my liking too. You arent really satisfying your need for catching stability because of the track record of both aforementioned catchers. What else is on the wire? Considered dropping Soto? If this is a redraft league then Bruce's value plummets what else is out there that can help you?
