Drop Aramis for Callaspo? (WHIR)

Postby GiantFanatic » Sun May 23, 2010 4:52 pm

So I'm struggling to upgrade/optimize a few spots on my roster, looking for a little more flexibility and prospects. Currently thinking about picking up one of the following the following:

- Callaspo (2B/3B)
- Boesch (OF)

10 team standard Yahoo league, roster as follows:

C - McCann
1B - Loney
2B - Utley
3B - Sandoval
SS - Alexei Ramirez
OF - M. Byrd
OF - C. Young
OF - J. Bruce
OF - J. Bay
Util - Ian Stewart
BN - C. Headley
BN - Aramis Ramirez

SP - Lincecum
SP - Romero
SP - J. Garcia
RP - Rivera
RP - Valverde
P - Bailey
P - Contreras
BN - Leake
BN - Liriano
BN - Vazquez
BN - Correia

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Didn't Homer Bailey get taken out of the game with shoulder problems? Might want to research that and consider dropping him instead.

I'm down on Ramirez... and it might take another month before he starts hitting.... but I wouldn't put him on the WW, imo.

Besides, I'd be more worried about finding a replacement for Alexi as I think ARam has better chance of coming around than Alexi.

Aramis has been the second unluckiest hitter in all of baseball. Even he doesn't suck this bad. He still has a shot at 20/90/.270, that has some value. Callaspo will give you less pop, but a higher average.

BABIP has been real low and the past week he has had some good cuts on the ball ... but I have to say (as a season ticket holding cubs fan) he looks messed up. My personal opinion is that its another month ... potentially after all-star break before he breaks out. I'm glad he isn't on my team, because I'm a big fan (own ARam jersey, etc lol) and I would have a hard time deciding what to do with him.

Given OP's roster though, I would keep him on my bench over Callaspo. It is actually a fairly close call ... If my team, I would ask myself: If I drop ARam, will someone else pick him up right away? Answer is probably YES -- someone will take a flier on him. Meanwhile, Callaspo is sitting on WW (for now).

Thanks for all the replies. Good points all... the reason I'm sitting on him is I don't necessarily need him at the moment (2nd overall, tho this week I'm getting hammered) and I don't want to give him up only to face him in August.

That's Andrew Bailey, not Homer, sorry about that. AB is just fine thankfully... :)

Yeah, Alexei is a problem, but it's actually just his AVG that sucks... overall he's not atrocious, or at least he's not the worst SS I could be starting. Problem is I don't know anyone who will trade a SS (since quality guys like Jeter are thin) and I don't have the depth to move on someone good (since ARam is eating my depth).

The guy with Drew has Gonzalez, so maybe I can target him for a trade... just got to figure out where I dig out the value for that one (it's the same guy who moved on Latos while I was deciding).

Thanks,

If you are worried about further down the road, then I think it becomes even clearer that keeping Aramis is right for ya.

Right now your main concern is finding a ss to replace alexei. Id deal one of ur 2b who i love both of. Im a phils fan, but id offer utley for hamram. That deal would be beneficial to ur team right now. If u wanna hold onto him, try and move stewart for a ss. If ur scowing the WW then u need to adress SS first.
