Punt saves? 14 team, h2h - WHIR, 100%

Postby plapre3 » Sat May 22, 2010 2:01 pm

Currently, my team stands in 4th place in my H2H 14 team league, but spots 1-8 are all relatively close. I feel like I should be a little higher than I am now, because of slow starts by Prince and Hill. My offense has been pretty weak/erratic, while the pitching has been superb. I'd like to find an upgrade somewhere on offense to a higher average, more consistent guy. Unfortunately, I don't have much depth to deal from. My saves situation has been less than desirable and I'm not sure that it's worth holding their value for the only slight rewards they've brought. I've always had fairly strong closers, so the idea is uncharted water for me, but should I punt saves?

I have a modest offer on the table:
My Aardsma (or K-Rod) and Willingham for his Matt Latos (or Martin Prado) and Franklin Gutierrez

I feel that I could take Latos and pair him with Abreu for a nice upgrade in the OF. Otherwise, I could take Prado to fill the black hole that has been Hill at 2B. This is an OPS league, so the drop from Willingham to FraGu concerns me, but I feel that it all might make some sense.

Sidd Finches:

You aren't getting enough back in this deal to forfeit a category each week. Stay put, pick up some guys in a handcuff role.

I'd stay put. Especially in an OPS league, you really want true power guys since a single HR contributes to 5 categories. Ride out this tough patch 'cause once Fielder gets his stuff together you should be gold.

Like the others said, I'd stay put. Definitely don't punt saves or take this deal. Neither are a good idea.

You should be fine on saves. Keep a close eye on the closer situations and you'll get a 4th eventually.

Too much to give up in such a deal, but I do have a question. I think I counted 3 closers. The heading says it is a 14 team league. So the average team should have just over 2 closers. You can afford to give up a closer in a good deal (and not punt saves) and still compete in saves. As well, scour the waiver wire for guys who could become closers.
