Nolasco Velo drop?

Postby OnceinDC2\1 » Fri May 21, 2010 9:14 pm

So I have read that his velocity is down and now watching him pitch against the white sox (just in time to watch him groove a fastball to kotsay for a HR). I haven't seen him hit 90 yet and he usually works anywhere from 90-94. Ks are down so far too. Anyone noted the same?

Just watched him give up 8ER, painful. Though he did get up to 93 mph. Seemed to be making a lot of mistakes over the heart of the plate.

He's down a bit over one MPH on his fastball.

The other interesting thing to note is that his slider, which he throws about 25%, is up over one MPH. So the difference between them is now 5.1 MPH while it was 7.8 last year and 7.3 two years ago. Not sure its significant, but maybe he needs better spread between the two.

MIAMI GARDENS — Right-hander Ricky Nolasco's velocity ranged from 88-91 mph Sunday, a few ticks lower than normal. He said that's no cause for alarm, but he wasn't happy with his performance in the Marlins' 10-8 win over the New York Mets at Sun Life Stadium.

"It felt terrible, but there are games when that's going to happen and you just have to go out there and battle. That's pretty much the only thing I'm proud of myself for today - I battled," he said.

not much insight with this, but hopefully he's right when he says there's nothing to worry about.

Is he worth starting? Or am I better off leaving him on the bench until things start looking up?
Looking forward to back to back championships in 2011!
