my shields for bobby abreu...WHIR...leave link

eithier is on DL, but more importantly a feel that a need steady production + decent speed, because queintin is too risky and pierre is only a 1.5 cat contributor. I know abreu's age is a risk and that's why i'm asking if it is a good idea to give up SHIELDS for him

edwin jackson, slowley, leake, cueto are on waivers...leaning on cueto to replace shields.

please help me make the best decision....whir, please leave link

my team (h2h non-keeper 5x5)

posada (will grab yadier or barajas as replacement)
pujols, morneau
kinsler, roberts (dl)
drew (asdrubal, dl)
youkilis
werth, pierre, quentin, either (dl)

james shields, lester, josh johnson, hammels, hughes, buchholtz, nieman, johnantan sanchez

Stay with J.Shields - looks good and is in for a great season.
Abreu would be a nice trading goal but I would stay put.

I would add Leake/Cueto for Hammels
It would be nice to know what you did with our advice - so please write a short reply

i like shields too and agree he'll have a good year--i still think the trade's worth it for you because i think leake or cueto are both perfectly fine replacements for shields, whereas you dont really have good options for the OF. abreu's age shows a little in that he's already missed parts of a couple games with stiffness, but for an older guy hes in good shape, and it doesn't look like hes falling off speed- or power-wise at all. not disagreeing with above poster about anything except the fact that your replacement options for pitching sound really good so why not send shields for abreu (a value upgrade if anything imo) and get cueto or leake, both of whom look at least as good as shields to me. the only reason i would not do it is if there's some equally appealing OF talent on free agency--if leake and cueto havent been picked up, odds are there are some decent OF left too, but overall shields for abreu a good deal for you even if your pitching alternatives weren't as good as they are imo. agreed with above about hamels probably being the pitcher to drop for cueto or leake if you dont make a trade.

unsolicited side note--asdrubal is pretty average for an SS anyway despite a good (very lucky in terms of steals and babip) year last year, and a broken arm means hes out probably at the very least until late july. youve got enough guys on the DL and id say drop him for a backup IF or really anything you want, i just dont think hes worth holding onto for maybe mediocre production in 2 months.
