Morneau for Liriano/Billy Butler WHIR

Postby issyg67 » Thu May 20, 2010 2:45 pm

Here's the scenario:

15-team roto league using AL and NL players. It's a keeper league, can carry three players over into next season.

Categories are H, HR, R, RBI and SB for offense, W, Ks, S, WHIP and ERA for pitching

I'd be trading Morneau and getting Liriano and Billy Butler in return.

My offense is stacked. I currently have 71 out of a possible 75 offensive category points -- far and away the best in my league. My pitching is miserable, with 19.5 out of 75. I'm currently in fifth place with 90.5 points. The leader has 103 and tenth place has 80.5.

My roster (starters noted)
C Yadier Molina
1B Justin Morneau
2B Chase Utley
3B Evan Longoria
SS Ryan Theriot
OF Nelson Cruz
OF Andrew McCutchen
OF Jayson Werth
P Matt Garza
P Jonathan Sanchez
P Ervin Santana
P John Ely
P Brian Fuentes
P Matt Lindstrom

Reserves
3B Chase Headley
1B/OF Matt LaPorta
OF Carlos Gomez
SS Cliff Pennington
C Carlos Ruiz
P Gio Gonzalez
P Brett Cecil
P Livan Hernandez
P Gavin Floyd
P Chris Perez
P Edinson Volquez

It really boils down to will Franciso Liriano keep pitching the way he has this season? If he does, then this is probably a trade worth doing. I'd like some other opinions, though.

I would do it. Like the value you get in return. Liriano is decen and I believe he will good for this year. I like Butler to put up close to the same numbers as Morneau.

Pull the trigger!

Thanks for the help with mine and sorry for he late response.

Liriano is legit enough and your offense is good enough for this to be a good trade for you.
I'd explore other possible SP options as well, but this would help you.

I like the value you get back in return. Not sure that Butler will match the HR/RBI numbers of Morneau, but I am sure they will be decent. Liriano will help your rotation too. Go for it.

Do it. Great pitcher for a maybe drop off at 1b (and I am not sure I think there is a dropoff).

Help with mine:

I do believe there is a drop off between Morneau and Butler, but your offense can take the hit to get Liriano in return. Go for it.
