Is this selling Shields high? His Ks and ERA are great right now but will it continue? Shields will likely end up with more Ks and Ws than Santana. But I think Santana will have a better ERA & WHIP.

I may be against the grain, but I will take Shields here. I know Johan is the bigger name, but based on performance I like Shields more this year.

I like the trade. if I were drafting today, i would definitely have Santana ranked higher than Shields (not by a ton....but definitely higher).

The only potential problem I see is that Santana is a bit more of an injury risk after last season. But you have some good pitchers on the bench with Danks, Latos and Sanchez to help get you through a potential stint on the DL.

So I say go for it. On paper, Santana is clearly the better pitcher....and there is very little downside.

I'd stay with Shields. Going to win more games and have better numbers at the end of the season.
