Bullpen help needed...(I have both Hoffman and Wood)

Postby misterf » Thu May 20, 2010 12:07 pm

I'm stuck with both Hoffman and Wood. Should I drop one of them for Villanueva?

10-team standard 5x5 roto

I have both Hoffman and Wood as relief pitchers on my team (yeah, my era just took a big hit).

Right now Villanueva (the presumed interem closer for the Brewers while Hoffman tries to pull it together) is available on the waiver wire. I want to pick up Villanueva up, but I really don't have anybody else that I can drop except either Hoffman or Wood.

Should I hold onto both Hoffman and Wood (keeping both on the bench, of course) and hope they turn it around? Or should I drop one of them to grab Villanueva? If so, which one do I drop?

My gut tells me to drop Wood and pick up Villanueva. My threory being that, at the end of the day, Milwaukee will end up with either Hoffman or Villanueva closing for them. So, by having both Hoffman and Villanueva on my team there is a high probability I end up with at least one closer out of this mess. Does that make sense?

Thanks in advance. Of course, WHIR!

P.S. I also have Valverde and Cordero as my other closers in this league. So my situation isn't a complete disaster. But, in this league, I will need at least 3 closers if I want to end up in the top 1/2 of the closer category.

Either of them are droppable in a 10-team league, but I'd drop Wood first. He not only looks bad, but his upside is poor. Pre-season, all signs were toward Cleveland putting him out there as trade bait (he's got a $10m/yr salary, and the Indians aren't contending), so your best case (which now seems more and more unlikely) is that he becomes the setup guy somewhere.

I don't think you will miss either but if I have to choose I would say Wood is the guy to let go.

Agree with dropping Wood and picking up Villanueva. It's a good CYA.

Thanks for the help with mine.
