Buy on Byrd? Sell Aardsma? WHIR, as always

Postby plapre3 » Wed May 19, 2010 7:44 pm

I've been offered the following deal:
My David Aardsma for his Marlon Byrd and Carlos Silva

I don't like Silva much, as he simply seems to have gotten incredibly lucky, but maybe someone can sell me on him. I haven't won saves once this year and I'm thinking of punting saves. In a h2h I feel like it's a bit more of an option. I'd like to add a power bat to my lineup and unfortunately the best I've been able to find is Byrd. Should I be a believer in him? He's been a bit lucky in terms of BA, but everything else about him, save his track record, seems pretty stable. I am a bit worried that he's only walked 4 times and this is an OPS league, but I also feel like I might be getting enough value to make this worth it.

I've also been offered Martin Prado for Josh Willingham, so maybe accepting both deals will make sense.

I would keep Aardsma. I don't think Byrd keeps it up much longer and Silva just sucks.

Please help

Hey,

I'm not sold on this deal, be it from a fantasy or Cubs fan's perspective. Carlos Silva may of turned the corner, but his ceiling is only a rotational option for a real life team. I believe he'll be a solid option for my Cubs, but definitely not for a competitive 14 team fantasy rotation. I simply don't trust him to continue to produce close to the level that he's at now.
Byrd is a solid bat, fundamentally sound, and a good team player. In the end however, he doesn't seem like much of a return for Aardsma when you consider the fact that you'd have to oust one of your current outfielders.

Maybe you should dangle Aardsma in a package deal with one of your current outfielders. This should at least open up some new trade possibilities for you, which you could always bring to the table over here.

I really don't like this deal for you. I think Byrd will start to tail off, as he isn;t keeping this up; and Aardsma is going to get you 30+ saves, even if Seattle sucks. I had Prado and one point and dropped him, as he doesn;t do much outside of average. Keep what you have!!
