I am in need of closer. After the horrific Hoffman is a possiblity of demotion talk is going around for Carlos Villanueva. He is being a offered in trade in my league. Now my concern right now is he's yet to be named the closer and when he does how long will that last? The other owner is looking for OF and SP help. So I was thinking of doing this offer.
Jonny Gomes and Randy Wolf for Carlos Villanueva and Jeff Francis
Along with my concerns with Villanueva, Francis is injury prone. Also is it always good to have an entire team's rotation in your line up? I'm not even a Rockies fan.
I was also thinking of just offering Randy Wolf for Carlos Villanueva.

Yeasterday, Vill and todd coffey were both on the WW. We could only pick up one and we took Vill. I however would not be surprised to see Coffey get the job. I can tell you, we plan on moving an SP when Chapman gets close to callup and you got some SP to spare. I'd rather see if Vill gets the job (or if Hoffman even gets demoted which is not guarantee with the macha/melvin show). Waiting ensures he is going to be a closer and gets you closer to Chapman. Can you check to see if Corpas, Contreras, or guiterriez on Arizona is on WW and maybe get some cheap saves?
Yeah, If you got an open roster spot, I'd simply pick up Coffey and wait. You might end up with the closer for free and keep your players. Buying Villaneuva now is high but it will be higher if he's named closer. We were in the same position in saves (we traded contreras, Duke, and X nady for Cordero). For us, closers is all about job security. Which means overpaying for Villanueva is probably a bad idea. I'd don't know the other guys roster, but I'd have no problem trading Wolf for Villa but I'd want a servicable bat too. Someone to increase bench strength. And remind the guy, you aren't too desperate as Street is coming back. Plus, you'll proably just aiming to get into middle of pack in SV.
Long story short: If you think Hoffman's done, which I do, then pick up Coffey. Then if possible, trade wolf for Villa and a bat. If you need a spot, I'd have no problems releasing Baker. But I'm not big on C and you already have 2. Then if Hoffman is demoted, drop the brewer who doesn't get the job and add a starter ( we just pickd up Jenrry Mejia off WW, the mets #1 pitching prospect who will be in rotation in a few weeks- might be available and under the radar) There is a big problem though- you may end up with two medoicre middle relievers in a 5X5 league and that's a gamble.
Gotta be honest, I'm high on Chacin especially if it's a keeper league. I'd def. look at wolf or hammels first. The one thing is when dela rosa comes back, you might have a Rockies SP moving to pen. If you want Vill, go get him but hedge your bets with Coffey. Nothing will be worse than trading for Vill and Coffey getting the job.
