My team is currently in second and I'm near the top in most pitching categories except Ws and Ks. I proposed the following to another team:
I send J Sanchez and A McCutchen along with either a rookie pick or regular draft pick next year for his CC Sabathia. He countered with J Sanchez and A McCutchen along with my rights to D Storen through the end of next year for CC Sabathia.
Am I crazy to feel a weird sensation in my gut on this? My roster is in my signature line below and it is a keeper league with protected rookies but at the end of the year Heyward, McCutchen and Price all lose their protected status and I've got a fair contingent of keepers already...
Thanks in advance for your thoughts & advice!
10 Team Roto, Keeper (7 + protected rookies:J Heyward, D Price and A McCutchen til 2010, W Davis and D Storen til 2011) 6x6 Hitting (R, HR, RBI, SB, TB, AVG) Pitching (W, SV, K, HLD, ERA, WHIP)

Having never played in a league with "rights" and "rookie picks," etc. I'm pretty well confused by all this.
That being said, I would go ahead and give up the rights to Soren, rather than a draft pick, if you make the deal. But I probably wouldn't make the deal, as I really like both Sanchez and McCutchen.

Sorry for the confusion! It was the league I first started playing in so it seems weirdly natural to me... Basically each year before the season starts we draft two rookies who we have the rights to as protected picks for two years - we don't have to roster these players, but no one else in the league can pick them up. At the end of their second year they become a regular player like anybody else and we can choose to include them in our 7 keepers or they go back into the pool for the regular draft. Before the 2009 season I drafted Jason Heyward and David Price (and acquired McCutchen & his 'rights') in a trade so they were protected for 2009 and 2010. This year I drafted Wade Davis and Drew Storen so they are protected for 2010 and 2011.
i love cc, he seems to get better and better as the year rolls along. can't think of a better time to make a play for him.
the weird feeling you have ...you know you are giving up too much. insist on a bat in return. not a great bat, but at least a useable bat for the bench to cover for a couple weeks here and there when a starter goes down.
and if possible, get him to add a draft choice
since he's asking for storen, you know he likes him. you should be able to squeeze a little more out of this deal.

but yeah, get cc
I agree...I think you are giving up a little too much. You can probably get a viable bench option to even the trade out, but I like asking for a draft choice more. I don't know if he would do this but it's worth a shot. Thanks for the help on mine

It does sound like you're giving up to much... Like someone else said, try to get a bat, as you would be hurting badly in the future seasons by losing McCutchen.
Go for CC and try to get a draft pick in return. If you can't, I'd probably still go for it. Forget about a viable bench option, what's the point. It's going to be someone close to what you'd pickup on waivers anyway so don't jepordize the deal for someone you might only play 10% of the time. Try the draft choice route without rejecting this offer. If he bites, great. If not, I'd probably take it as it is. Yeah, you are giving up too much probably, but if you want CC then why not. BTW, I like the CC deal over the Johan/Beckett deal. Thanks for the help on mine.
