Trade H. Ramirez for U. Jiminez (multiplayer)

Postby Goatrider » Tue May 18, 2010 11:47 am

Hi,
This is my first post and my and the brother's first year as players.

NL Only. 12 teams. Standard 5X5. 6 player keeper. Must carry 2 C and 5 OF.

C- Chris Snyder, Eli Whiteside
1B- Troy Glaus
2B- Rick Weeks
3B- Ian Stewart
SS- Hanley Ramirez
CI- Casey MacGehee
MI- Jerry Hairston
OF- Adam Dunn, Marlon Byrd, Justin Upton, Cody Ross, Fred Lewis
U- Ronny Cedano
SP- Jonathan Sanchez, Brad Penny, Mike Leake, Carlos Silva, Edwin Jackson
RP- Francisco Cordero, Tyler Clippard, Mike Adams, Sean Marshall
Reserve P- Aroldis Chapman, JA Happ, Brandon Lyon
Reserve Hitters- Chris Ianetta, Nick Stavinoha

The deal on the table is US: Ramirez, Carlos Silva, Brandon Lyon for: Jiminez and Ryan Theriot.

The way I look at it is Ramirez is slowing down meaning Theriot could properly make up the BA and SB while we have plenty of power production to spare up and down our lineup(we are first in HR, R, and RBI all season long). Silva is a sell high proposition. Lyon is a throw-in but does give the other team a handcuff w/ Lindstrom so there is some value there.
For us, Jiminez addresses multiple pitching weaknesses (ERA, K, WHIP in particular). As a bonus, he's eligible as a CHEAP keeper giving us a keeper staff of Jiminez, Chapman, Sanchez, Leake, and Penny for about 15% of total salary for next year.
Lastly, with Happ and assumably Chapman coming as reinforcement, we will be able to trade a SP for additional offense later (ex: Y. Escobar is available for cheap). This will also open a roster spot that we'd probably fill with nick masset creating our own handcuff with Cordero.

Thanks for the thoughts as I still have to convince my brother who may have a bit of a mancrush on Ramirez. But maybe he's right to do so.
PS- we traded for Cordero for Jose Contreras, Xavier Nady, and Zach Duke bringing us from last to 8th in saves: how did we do?

I have a massive mancrush on Hanley so I'd stay put. I would never trade an elite everyday bat for an arm (although Jiminez is indeed a stud). Pitchers are far less reliable and much more prone to injury from year to year. I'd rather lock-up Han-Ram as a first-round talent at a premium position and sit on him for the next 4-5 years.

(thanks for the help on mine!)

There's no way I'm dealing Hanley for that package, even if Ubaldo is a stud. Just no way.

Absolutely LOVE both players, but you really can't deal Hanley for that. No pitcher can get you Hanley unless it's a pretty robust package.

Hanley is worth more, so I wouldn't do it straight up. You can get more back for Hanley, who is a #2 pick in every fantasy draft.

Thanks guys,
I got a nice "told you so" from the brother. We are going to try and package Ian Stewart instead. Just found and loving this site.
