Hanley: "I don't respect my manager"

Hanley Ramirez told reporters Tuesday morning that he "lost some respect" for manager Fredi Gonzalez after Monday's benching.
Ramirez was lifted from Monday's 3-2 loss to the Mets after booting a bloop hit into the left field corner and jogging after it with little effort. He probably should have apologized Tuesday rather than complicate matters further, because what could have been a minor issue has now taken on a life of its own. Now Gonzalez may be forced to bench Ramirez further.

Via Joe Capozzi's Twitter feed. Another good nugget: Hanley says Gonzalez "doesn't know what it's like to play through pain because he never played in the Big Leagues. I respect everybody but I don't know if I get the same respect back."

Oof. I'm sure he'll either say he was "misunderstood" or the PR team will try to sweep these comments under the rug but this is about to get ugly...if it hasn't already.

For once...JUST ONCE...would I love to see somebody stand by a comment like this...you said it, you felt it, you believed it...don't back down.

Once Hanley had booted it there was no way the play outcome would have been any different had he hauled ass...both those runs are scoring....MAYBE, MAYBE you get Abreu at third or he stays at second but the dude was probably on first base before that bloop dropped in...

If the actual jogging had cost the team, I could understand...but the Marlins were screwed at that point

That's just inexcusable, I'm sorry. I lost a little respect for Hanley, to be honest. It doesn't matter if hustling or not hustling would have made a difference... you don't give up on your teammates, period. Just another primadonna ball player who thinks his stud abilities allow him the excuse to be an idiot.

I've watched alot of Marlins games this year. (have 2 of their pitchers) And he always seems likes he's loafing it. And he is a horrendous SS.

In fairness it's not like Hanley's attitude hasn't been in question before. When he was in the Sox system he was suspended for 10 games for flipping off his own dugout so maturity and effort questions have dogged him in the past.
