Drop Slowey? WHIR

Postby Emerald8h » Tue May 18, 2010 8:30 am

I'm in a 12 team yahoo public league with 5x5 standard stats....right now my hitting has been a little underwhelming, but with Rollins and Suzuki back, I think things will turn around. My pitching has been real strong but my WHIP is suffering slightly. The biggest culprit, besides Wandy who I can't drop, is Slowey. Would anybody drop him for the following players.

Adam Jones, Kubel, Marcum, Clippard

C Suzuki
1B Pujols
2B Kendrick
3B Youk
SS Rollins
OF Carlos Gonzalez
OF Podsednik
OF Gardner
UTIL Bay
UTIL Morneau
BN Chris Young, Headley

SP Josh Johnson, Jiminez, Nolasco, Wandy, Liriano, Garcia, Slowey
RP Cordero, Nunez, Gregg, Lindstrom

I don't think any of those guys help more than Slowey will.

I'd drop Wandy before Slowey anyway. This underwhelming pitching by Wandy has gone on too long for me to think anything other than it's an injury. Even if it isn't an injury, the Astros suck so bad, he'll never get more than 10 wins.

Recently cut Slowey in a 10-teamer, and he was cut in a competitive 12-teamer I'm in as well.
Marcum shouldn't be available in a 12-team league...I'd certainly make the Slowey/Marcum swap. Marcum is really in a groove now, in pre-surgery form.

If you don't go the pitching route, Adam Jones would be a nice stash for your bench until he heats up. You might want to inject some power in that lineup with both Pods and Gardy in the OF.

Not sure it really matters. If you are playing in a league that nobody hasnt picked up Marcum yet, or better yet drafted like I did, not sure it really matters...

P.S. You hate to drop Slowey, but if thats all you have, then he certainly is worth the drop for Marcum!

Marcum would be the only one I would consider, but I think that I would hold onto Slowey.

would take Marcum over Slowey in a heart beat, I don't trust a pitch to contact guy like Slowey in that new ballpark.

As frustrating as Slowey has been, Wandy has been a mere shell of his former self. I think I'd give him the boot before Slowey. Marcum definitely needs to be picked up, I'm surprised he hasn't been already.
