I just lost Asdrubal for a while. Which of these guys should I replace him with?
Yunel Escobar Mike Aviles Christian Guzman Starlin Castro
A couple things:
• I'm looking for a long term replacement, not just a hot bat. Pickups in this league cost $$$. • It's a points league with the following values: Run (1), Hit (1), RBI (1), SB (1) - [No points for HR per se, but it totals 3 points for a hit, run and RBI]
At first, I didn't want to hop on the hype train for Castro, but when Tulo got hurt, I picked up Castro and I've been happy with him ... kid can definitley hit. Throughout his minor league career, he's shown he doesn't K very much or walk very much. The kid just makes very consistent, solid contact. He's showing that so far in the show. He looks pretty good batting 2nd, but I don't know if Lou is going to keep him there permanently.
Guzman and Castro can probably be ruled out right off the top unless you think Castro will stick. He might, but if there's $$ on the line I would pass. Escobar is probably the best bet based on past results, but he's spent most of the year in the 6 spot in the lineup when he hasn't been injured and the results haven't been great. I own Aviles who I am not sold on yet but it seems he will provide a decent average and could stick in the 2 spot in front of Butler and Guillen. I would take Escobar but continue to follow Aviles.

I agree that Escobar is the safe choice here. But I too might lean more towards Aviles. I know you said you want to think long term here, but Aviles is probably the better short term stop gap, and since Asdrubal Cabrera might be back in 6 weeks anyway, perhaps you might want to consider near term also.
As a bonus, Aviles is also 2B eligible as well as at SS. So I'd probably go with Aviles.
