Brian Wilson for Alex Rios? (WHIR)

Postby drunkmonkey » Mon May 17, 2010 12:27 pm

12 team keeper league, 5x5 H2H. We keep 6, so Rios & Wilson wouldn't be kept (unless Rios pulls off a miracle season).

I've been offered Rios for Wilson. My OF is underperforming, and Wilson is my only consistent source of saves. Do I punt saves for now, and keep my eye on the WW for closers to pop up during the season?

My team:
C Kurt Suzuki (Oak - C)
1B Ryan Howard (Phi - 1B)
2B Ian Kinsler (Tex - 2B)
3B David Wright (NYM - 3B)
SS Jimmy Rollins (Phi - SS)
OF Matt Holliday (StL - OF)
OF Torii Hunter (LAA - OF)
OF Juan Pierre (CWS - OF)
Util Adam Jones (Bal - OF)
BN Ryan Theriot (ChC - 2B,SS)
BN Adam LaRoche (Ari - 1B)
BN Martín Prado (Atl - 1B,2B,3B)
DL Curtis Granderson (NYY - OF)DL

SP Jeff Niemann (TB - SP)
SP Derek Holland (Tex - SP,RP)
RP Andrew Bailey (Oak - RP)
RP Brian Wilson (SF - RP)
P Frank Francisco (Tex - RP)
P Chris Pérez (Cle - RP)
P Neftali Feliz (Tex - RP)
BN Kevin Correia (SD - SP)
BN Matt Garza (TB - SP)
BN Javier Vázquez (NYY - SP)
BN Josh Beckett (Bos - SP)
DL Erik Bedard (Sea - SP)DL

Man this is tough. You're buying high on Alex Rios, but he is in the right situation and park with the ChiSox. I think Rios is the real deal in terms of power and speed since he is playing for the White Sox. I'd rather counter with Bailey but if you don't think he will do that, I might do the deal. In h2h leagues, closers aren't as valuable as 5 tool players. Rios is probably a significant upgrade to Pierre or Adam Jones. Again, I'd probably accept it. I'll remind you that I was a person who drafted Rios in the 8 round in last year's draft.

That is tough, but I think based on your teams needs ... I would have to say No. Your OF right now isn't that bad ... at least Pierre and Jones are starting to slightly break out of their early struggles. And Granderson will be back soon for you. Wilson really is your only true, consistent, undeniable source of saves.
