Guess its not just Zaun...

Check this out, Salty having a heck of a time trying to get the ball back to the pitcher...

http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/ro ... asy,240938

In Salty's last game, Tuesday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, 12 of his throws back to the pitcher landed either short of the mound or in center field. He had five errant throws in the first inning alone.

"He's just got to keep playing until he gets it right," RedHawks manager Bobby Jones said. "I don't know what else to do. It's a shame. It's definitely what's keeping him here. He's blocking the ball well and swinging the bat well. He's just got to figure it out. It's a shame."

I mean I guess it would be a factor to hold a player back, because if theres a runner on third and hes air mailing balls to center field then their gonna have issues. But in all honesty how many stories like this have yall heard over the years with catchers being held back not because they can't throw a guy out at 2nd on a steal or third, or pick a guy off on a snap throw to 1st, but because he can't get the ball back safely to the pitcher?

Great thanks to soto for the sweet sig!...

I've never heard of this before, but I think they're right to hold him back. This is a skill you should be able to get down fairly well in little league.

Jake Taylor: Rube, what's going through your head just before you throw the ball back to the pitcher?
Rube Baker: I'm thinking, "Damn, I don't want to screw this up."
Jake Taylor: Well, what are you thinking when you throw a strike to nail the runner down at second base?
Rube Baker: Well, I, I'm not thinking nothing. I just throw it.
Jake Taylor: You see what I'm getting at?
Rube Baker: You want the pitcher to pitch from second base?
Jake Taylor: [frustrated, blank look] Oooogh.

I remember seeing this the other day in player news and thinking of the yankee 2b that couldnt throw to first. Drawing a blank on the name(steve sax???).
But no, I have never heard of it being a problem for a catcher

Sax and Knoblauch had similar problems, although Sax actually got over it.

Dale Murphy originally started out as a catcher with the Braves, but developed similar throwing problems.
