If its not a keeper I wouldn't worry about Castro as Tejada can hold your SS job down, and if he can Zobrist will come back around and has SS eligbility.
As for Broxton, there is no way I would pass on him. I'd have a claim in on him for Lilly, who hasn't even come close to looking like the same pitcher he has been in the past. Also you have very nice SP depth with your top 4, then after that still great options in Holland, Buchholz, Matusz and Vazquez.
I would then keep my eyes pealed for another addition, because once Suzuki returns you can cut Ruiz asap. Nice looking squad.
Sorry I forgot to say that. I dont' know if that affects your decision or not.
We keep 10 players each year.
In that case I would then ask myself if Castro should be kept over any of these potential keepers?
Teix, CarGo, Zobrist, Miggy, Johnson, Nolasco, Wainy, Davis or even over guys who should bounce back to become keepers, Beckham, Lee, Vazquez or how youngsters like Holland, Buchholz, Matusz or even Santana finish the year? If you think you would keep Castro over any of those guys, including also Broxton, then I would claim him, if not then I don't think I would because hes not going to be a big splash this year for your squad.
So unless one of the ten just tanked (beckham is struggling right now, but I've got to figure he will turn it around soon), Castro is competiting with that tenth keeper or Davis, Buchholz, Holland, Vazquez or Lee. Something to ponder for sure.
ANYONE ELSE WITH A TAKE????
WOULD YOU PUT A WAIVER CLAIM ON BROXTON OR CASTRO and if so...
Broxton is a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. Honestly, how the hell did he get on the ww in the first place?
I like Castro long-term, but my guess is that he might find his way on the the ww at some point later in the year. He's not sure thing in any regard. His bat is likely to be very erratic, and it should be, he's 20! what scares me with him, though is just how terrible his fielding has been thus far. With theriot, a solid options, just on the other side of the bag, he could be sent down to the minors if (when?) his bat slips.
I may drop Lilly, I may consider Santana. At only 10 keepers, not sure he's a keeper next year and Lilly may be more valuable than him the rest of the year. I am not sure when Santana comes up, maybe June, maybe later.
