Right now I have Alex Gonzalez and he's decent but I need someone that will get me great numbers more consistently than Gonzalez, would you take any of these guys over Gonzalez?:
-Starlin Castro - Marco Scutaro - Mike Aviles -Ian Desmond
I know I don't have much to choose from for shortstop, but I've tried to buy a few guys low (such as Jose Reyes and Elvis Andrus( before he started playing really well as of late)) so what should I do, and here is my roster for reference:
Team B - ESPN FBaseball - Standard stats, Rotisserie, 10 teams
C- Victor Martinez 1B- Albert Pujols 2B- Dan Uggla 3B - Kevin Youkilis SS- Alex Gonzalez OF - Matt Holliday , Jayson Werth, Raul Ibanez, Alfonso Soriano, Austin Jackson UTIL - Ryan Howard, Kelly Johnson
SP - Chris Carpenter, Javy Vazquez, John Lackey, Jake Peavy, Zack Greinke, Roy Oswalt RP - Matt Capps, Andrew Bailey, Brian Fuentes BN - Chone Figgins, Michael Bourn, Grady Sizemore DL - Huston Street
I think I would take any of those guys over Gonzalez actually as I see a big fall off for him really soon. I would take my chances with Castro first for a little while. You can always drop him for one of the others in the future but I would ride the hot hand in Castro who could also be a nice trading chip down the line if he produces.
With all of your choices I don't think you will get great consistent numbers from any of them. I picked up Gonzalez when Rollins went on the DL. I am not as down on him as most are but he has been adequate for the roll I need him for. While many might not agree I think I would cut my losses with Figgins and get Starlin Castro give myself flexibility with SS. Just my thoughts.
I'd grab one of Castro or Aviles, depending on your tastes. If I had to pick I'd probably grab Castro in the hopes that he's hot early and looks good to flip to a needy manager.
You should probably try to deal Gonza for a top 100 player, if not I would hold onto him and maybe pick up either Castro or Aviles as a backup. I don't see anything wrong with Gonza right now though.
I would go with Aviles... I think he's underrated due to his injury last year. He could end up a nice player. Other than that, I do like Castro quite a bit, but want to temper my expectations since he is a rookie. I think I'd grab Aviles to replace Gonzo (I plan to do just that myself in my league's free agency tonight, though I have someone else to drop to keep Gonzo too). Hope this helped.
