Adrian Gonzalez Trade WHIR

Postby Hammers » Wed May 12, 2010 9:52 am

Hey Everyone,

Right now it seems like my team is just smoke and mirrors, but I am in 4th place and only 7 points out of 2nd place and I want to solidify my lineup. My leagues is AL/NL mixed with 12 teams and yearly keepers (salary based keeper system). It is not head to head, you get points for everything your players do and the team with the most points wins at the end of the season. I have been offered a trade to move my 1B, Adrian Gonzalez. I was hoping I could get a little help in deciding on whether or not to do this trade. At most I can have 25 active/reserved players and 2 players on the DL for a total of 27.

The Trade
I get: James Loney 1B, Chase Headley OF, Jay Bruce OF, and a 5th round draft pick.

I also have the option of swapping out one of those guys for Howie Kendrick 2B. I have Brian Roberts 2B coming off the DL soon, so I am not sure if I should go for Kendrick when I have Orlando Hudson filling in. I also have a ton of outfielders, so to take on 2 more might not be a good idea either. However, Adrian Gonzalez's salary is very high, so next year I will be able to keep more guys if I don't have him on my team.

I send: Adrian Gonzalez

If your in 4th, you should be playing for this year...this trade is more of a sell off type deal. 5th round pick in next years draft doesn't help you this year. I love Bruce, but your clearly giving up the best player in the deal.

I think I would drop Olivio and Garland if this trade goes through. I agree that I am the one giving up the stud player. On another topic, is everyone on my team just over performing or did I catch lightning in a bottle with who I currently have on my team?

First, thanks for the help on mine...I decided to pick up Aviles.

I think it's a decent trade for you. Loney looks like he's finally figured it out, Headley is a good young talent, Bruce could go either way, and you get a draft pick next year...In terms of dropping, I'd most likely drop Olivo, and one of your prospects. I don't know how many keepers you get, but it seems like you have a lot of prospects that won't see too much time this year, and thus aren't worth holding onto over other players

Thanks for the replies so far. Since I am in a keeper league, I have to think for this year as well as the next year or so. Adrian Gonzalez has a very high salary and prevents other players from being kept. So a way to examine this, is Loney, Headley, and Bruce, any of them worth keeping next year? If they are, then their salary will not be as much and help me possibly keep someone else.

However, if the 3 players I am taking on are not worth keeping for next year, I am just renting them for this year. So for next year's draft I would be short of Adrian Gonzalez and a 5th round draft pick. A 5th round draft pick does not equal Adrian Gonzalez.

Any thoughts?

Thanks. WHIR.

I'm not a fan, i for some reason immediately am biased against trades where I give up 1 player for more than 2.

I wouldn't...I don't think any of the players you get back come close to AGonz potential and it gives you a logjam of offense.
