My team is dominating the steals category, and is middle-of-the-road in AVG, OPS, HR, RBI. Morales would provide more power than Butler, but is it worth losing McCutchen, who will probably provide 20 homers on his own?
If I do this, I'd probably drop Kerry Wood.
Team is in signature. Leave a link.
Looking forward to back to back championships in 2011!
I hate to say it, but I don't see how you're dominating steals: Victorino and McCutchen are a nice pairing, but I don't think you have steals to burn.
And the closer upgrade isn't worth that much to me, really. It is an upgrade, sure, but in a 9 teamer with holds, you'll have chances for closers from the wire (ironically, having holds means that while some top closers-in-waiting are surely owned, each team is less able to respond to a promotion without creating a roster imbalance).
I do think Butler's not going to cut it at 1B this year, but the way to rectify it is to bench him and drop Opera Man for a 1B from the wire.
Thanks. My problem is that there really are NO 1B's on the wire. Almost everybody has their UT slot filled with a 1B. There are guys with 3 1B's on their team, even though they can only play 2 (I don't get it).
I think Butler will give me 20-25HR, and I don't think that'll cut it. Morales would only give me around 30, so I don't see how he'd be all that much better though. :(

I do agree that Butler will likely not exceed what he did last year (He's been too hyped this offseason). If 1Bs are that highly valued, I like Morales for you... But McCutchen is looking like a very valuable power/speed threat. a 20/40 player is really valuable, regardless of position. I agree, the closer upgrade is often not worth that much -- kind of a toss-in. I would probably not do the deal (though I can't see your whole team -- signature was not showing up for me). I think the diff. between Butler and Morales is not worth it...

Sorry for the late bump everybody, but I just saw this.
I am in first place in steals in my league, with more than 10 steals over the next guy.
I think I have steals to burn because of this fact, AND because of the fact that I have Reyes as my SS and he hasn't started running yet. Assuming he's healthy, I see no reason he won't be stealing 60+ this season.
EDIT: I'm considering countering this offer with Kendry/ Heath Bell for McCutchen, and I'd drop Dallas Braden. Of course, with my current set-up, I'd be swapping Kendry Morales directly for McCutchen (no bench players), that will change soon because I'm also leading in Holds and I plan to drop Jose Contreras after either Lidge or Madson returns (or I might just drop Contreras Sunday night because Monday there will be teams with the day off and I can pick up a bench player for that day).

Interesting. I hate giving up McCutchen and while Kendry will be an upgrade over Butler in the Power department is it really that huge of an upgrade overall? Is there anyone in you league willing to give you something for Butler? When Granderson comes back you are going to have to put a legit player on the bench.
BTW if this is a keeper I don't trade McCutchen, not no way, not no how.
Even with the new counter offer, I still think I hold onto what you have. Yes, Morales might give you a bump in power over Butler, but I think Butler could still come pretty close to Morales' #'s...and McCutchen, while not possessing a TON of power, will still hit you a few HR's in addition to his speed & average. IMO, I'd stick with what you have.
And like the poster above says, if it's a Keeper, there is absolutely NO WAY I do this
Looking at your roster, I think you need pitching help more than offense. BTW, Contreras will be the closer for the Phillies for awhile, so don't drop him.
If I had your team, I'd look to make a trade for a top tier pitcher.
