Wainwright/Gardner for Upton/Kershaw WHIR

Postby Urban Cohorts » Mon May 10, 2010 12:09 pm

12 Team, 5x5, 28 Roster Spots, Yahoo Keeper League (Keep 8 players, no restrictions)
Normal hitter positions plus CI, MI, OF and we have 5 SP and 5 RP spots

Not really in it to win it this year. Going into rebuild mode, he is trying to win.

Was offered BJ Upton OF + C Kershaw SP + 1st and 3rd Round Picks

For my B Gardner OF + A Wainwright SP + 2nd and 7th Round Picks

Does this trade look fair?

Appreciate all the help from the replies. WHIR of course!

How good is the rest of your pitching staff? If you have a bunch of great pitchers, I make the deal. If you do not, I would hold on to Wainwright. Please see mine.

I own and love Wainwright but the drop from him to Kershaw is smaller than the drop from Gardner to Upton. Gardner will get you SB, but lets be realistic about the caliber of player he is. He is on fire and playing way over his head right now. The Yankees were hoping he would hit .280 this year, so the likelihood that Gardner is going to keep this up all year is very slim.

I'm in rebuild mode right now. The rest of my pitching staff is mainly composed of younger SP with some upside (Matusz, Holland, Strasburg, Slowey).

I agree......I would pass on this one.

Being a fellow Wainwright owner, he is a STUD, to the extreme. Kershaw (minus this past weekend) is trying to reach those levels, and might not for another year. VERY inconsistent. Gardner has been an excellent find and story (got him in my AL-Only league) BUT I would still take BJ Upton over him.

Wainwright alone for Upton and Kershaw should get it done, but I don't know if I would do that either.

I'd do it. Kershaw may end up better than Wainwright if he can keep it together and Upton has way more power than Gardner so gives more all around stats.

Without seeing your roster I am going on keeper value alone. Yeah Wainwright is a stud, but you said it yourself that Kershaw has the potential to be an ace himself. He has had a rough start, but showed promising signs his last start. Upton is a big upgrade keeper wise to Gardner cause all he will give is SBs whereas Upton has the potential to produce in almost every category. I would probably take this deal. You mentioned you are in rebuilding mode so look at it like this you can have 2 keepers in Kershaw/Upton vs just 1 in Wainwright.

While Upton is an upgrade over Gardner, Wainwright is far too valuable. Kershaw in my mind is too unreliable right now. It's feast or famine with him while you're almost certain for a good performance from Wainwright. I would also pass on this trade.

This is pretty close, but in sheer keeper value, I think I'd make this trade. BJ is way better than Gardner and Kershaw COULD be an Ace himself

thanks for the help with mine
