what is the deal with this guy this season? i was expecting big numbers this season. he started the season in the 4 spot. his current numbers are brutal.. .184 AVG/ .297 OBP/ .379 SLG/ .676 OPS/ he does have 3 HR and 14 RBI, and the power potential is there. he strikes out alot, but his K rate is ridiculous at 44.8 % (09- 37.2%). his K rate in the minors was not that bad. 09AAA= 27.0 %/ 08AA= 18.0%/ 07A+= 21.1%/ 06A= 25.6% he is walking, 11.9 % (09- 10.5%). allthough most of his walks are out of the 6 spot. his AVG is bad (.184 AVG) but his BABIP isnt bad at .289 BABIP. he has 16.7 LD% (09- 12.9%) but also only 39.6 FB% (09- 50.5%). i didnt expect his AVG to be that bad, his career in the minor league line is.. .304 AVG/ .393 OBP/ .505 SLG/ .898 OPS/ in 451G/ 1662 AB.
anyone know anything about whats going on with him out in San Diego? with all the OF the Padres have, is there a good chance he gets sent down to AAA?
he started the season in the 4 spot as protection to Gonzalez and has moved down 5/6/7. i read on one site something the Padres should try. bat blanks in the 3 spot ahead of Gonzalez. while Blanks has K'd alot he also takes a walk. he could see much better pitches to hit batting infront of Gonzalez. i would personally hate to see the Padres send Blanks down to AAA.
anyone think he is showing any signs of bad luck or signs of a turn around? a guy in my dynasty league dropped him, which was pretty surprising, and i have a roster spot to drop marlon byrd for him with the upside that blanks offers in power.
Hoyer believes Rizzo still has some developing to do at Triple-A. “He is not going to go back down once he comes up,” Hoyer said. “And we’re not going to bring him up as the remedy for the offense. The timing and situation has to be right.”
