Two rough starts? Hes really had about 4-5 rough starts. Guy hadn't gone more then 6IP til tonight, has walk totals of: 4, 3, 3, 3, 1, 2 and K rates of: 3, 4, 4, 1, 2, 2. Not exactly even average stuff, then factor in the fact that he was 1-3 coming into today, and I could definitely see why people would give up on him.
Again prior to tonight your telling me you would have an arm rostered, lets say in a 12 teamer, that has a stat line of: 33IP, 1-3, 16BB, 16K, 7.21ERA and 1.91WHIP? Come on, be serious, especially with all of the streak arms there have been to start the year. Sheets had a damn nice start tonight, but when he goes back 2 back and then has a decent 3rd outing even after that, then I may believe. But he has just looked like junk up until tonight.
He gave up 9 in Toronto and 8 in Tampa. I don't know that i'd call the other starts rough, though I agree the peripherals were mediocre at best. If anything he seems to be pitching well at home. I'm still hanging on to him, you have to expect some rust after being away from the game for as long as he's been.
After having a whole year off it shouldn't be surprising that he was extremely rusty. He's a determined guy and a good pitcher so I'm assuming (close to) business as usual should resume shortly.

from a purely fantasy point of view, yeah. Prior to the 8 and 9 run blow ups he carried an ERA of 2.74 and a whip of 1.56. Not great, but not horrible for a guy coming back from a year off.
he wasn't great, but he was rosterable.
When you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room...is for fun.
He was dropped in my 14 team league. He cleared waivers and I picked him up. Didn't start him against the Rays lineup but I'm happy with the results. Hopefully he stays healthy and this start was him turning the corner.
