Need help with 3-for-3 trade ...

Postby MashinSpuds » Mon May 03, 2010 6:51 pm

Hey guys,

I am in a 12 team, 7x7 MLB keeper league. The extra stats are OPS, batter K's, Holds and Quality Starts. I am lacking in speed and usually have trouble in OPS. He needs pitching. Here is the trade offer:

I trade to him: John Lackey, Wade Davis, Randy Wells
He trades to me: Jon Lester, Julio Borbon, JD Drew

Lester cannot be kept, unfortunately. In case you're wondering, I like Drew because he eventually puts up a great OPS as the season wears on.

My other starting pitchers: Haren, Beckett, Lilly, Romero, Pavano, Jamie Garcia, Chacin, Duchscherer (inj)

I feel that I'm somewhat gutting my pitching a bit, but I could really use the speed. Any insight would be helpful!

I don't love it. I would hope to land a more promising SB player than Borbon. I think you are giving up 3 solid SP for 2 ok players and a good SP. I don't really have a problem with it but I do think you might be able to land a better SB threat without giving up quite so much.

Thanks! He also has Gardner and Podsednik, the latter of which I'm not all that enthused about. What do you think of Gardner?

Before I even saw your second post, I was thinking, "I wonder who has Gardner in that league?" That is where you should go.

If you could land Gardner instead of Borbon, I might do this deal. I do think you are giving a lot of pitching- seems like you ought to be able to land Gardner one for one with maybe Davis. But- if not, I'd do the deal. Lester will get stronger, as will the Sox offense, and Gardner is going to shine even more in an everyday role, with Grandy out, IMO.

Thanks for your help.

I would do that trade with Garner instead of Bourbon.

Especially if you can't keep Lester (wondering why ?)

I agree with all that has been said. I feel like you're giving up a lot just to get 3 mediocre players in return (albeit you need the steals). Gardner would be a good option, especially now that Granderson's on the DL

Dont like the trade. I would try and get better value than Drew and Borbon.

Thanks to your input, I made a trade of Lackey/Davis/Hardy for Lester/Borbon/Drew. Saved a little pitching for one of my backup shortstops, so I feel pretty good about it. Thanks again guys.
