Carlos Quentin -- hold or cut?

A new guy in our league cut Carlos Quentin (I guess the .173 AVG wasn't good enough for him).

I had an open slot, so I picked him up.

Now I'm wondering...how long do I wait on him? He only hit .236 last year. Is it completely ridiculous to hope he'll start looking like the 2008 Carlos Quentin again?

I could pick up David Freese, Podsednik, Dexter Fowler, Alfredo Simon, or Gio Gonzalez.

I should also mention that I could also drop Josh Willingham or Wade LeBlanc.

I wouldn't give up on him. He has more talent and upside than any of the OF you listed. IMO it's only a matter of time before he starts hitting. A full repeat of his 2008 numbers is unlikely, but he does have very solid power numbers.

Baseball Prospectus has a short piece on him this week and they are not buyers. It's subscription, so I'll just paraphrase: 2yrs of declining ISO, HR, BA - in short, "low quality contact". He's just had one good year, back in '08. They conclude their piece: "2008 seems like a long time ago"...

.180 Quentin's batting average, ISO, and BABIP. Still has a 0.95 BB/K though.

I'm not sure what to do either. Someone just flat cut him and he's an FA. Not sure if I'm going to try and get him after reading some of the prospectus data.

I've only held onto him this long because I am 10 games up in my division. If I was sitting in the middle or near the bottom, I'm not sure his leash would be so long. His numbers have gotten better in the past week though.
