Need to Trade Pitching, WHIR

Postby BigDunn » Sun May 02, 2010 11:10 pm

I have too many pitchers as our leageu has a 1250 inning limit so I'm looking to trade a pitcher for a hitter. One other team wants to trade hitting for pitching, what would you offer? 10 team, 5x5 re-draft league.

My Team:
C M.Wieters
1B M.Cabrera
2B D.Pedroia
3B A.Ramirez
SS D.Jeter
OF M.Kemp
OF N.Markakis
OF H.Pence
UT J.Votto
UT K.Johnson
BN: J.Pierre, J.Smoak, M.Montero, C.Beltran
SP: D.Haren, J.Verlander, M.Garza, Jer.Weaver, B.Penny, J.Vazquez, S.Strasburg, E.Bedard
RP: B.Wagner, R.Franklin, B.Jenks, M.Lindstrom, F.Morales

Other Team:
C Y.Molina
1B B.Butler
2B I.Kinsler, R.Cano
3B K.Youkilis
SS S.Drew, Y.Escobar
OF R.Braun, A.Ethier, S.Choo, C.Lee, M.Ordonez, J.Guillen
SP J.Johnson, R.Dempster, J.Peavy, T.Lilly, C.Buchholz, M.Buehrle, R.Harden, B.Webb
RP A.Bailey, B.Lidge, O.Dotel, J.Johnson, K.Wood, R.Madson

He says he wants to trade Cano, who I could stick at utility with Votto. I'd also like to upgrade from A-Ram ot Youk, but he's not very high on A-Ram (I'm sure I could get Youk if I offered enough). My other thought was getting an Ethier or Choo to start over Pence. Which pitcher(s) would you offer for one of those hitters? Thanks.

I think Cano is a redundency if you have to give up a serious amount. You are already stacked at second base.

If it's A-ram and Vazquez or Penny and another pitcher or some such, I think you have to. However, I wouldn't even do Aram and Garza for Youk.

For Choo, start low with Pierre and Vazquez and see what he thinks.

In the end, it really depends what pitchers he likes best. If you can get a feel for that (other then Verlander and Haren which is obvious), then craft an offer around that. you should get a better idea from his counters. I hope that helps!

Also, I would not move Verlander or Haren for any of the guys we are talking about as I think it weakens your pitching staff too much.

I would start with offering a package the includes Penny/Vazquez and Pierre/ARam. I wouldn't go any higher than that unless he's willing to accept Verlander/Weaver/Garza straight up for Choo/Youk.
League Setup:
13 Team Points League
6 Hitters 3 Pitchers (Positions don't matter)
1B = 1, 2B = 2, 3B = 3, HR = 4, RBI = 1
Win = 12, Save = 5

I'd go after Lee low. Maybe see if you can trade Vazquez for him.

I don't think there's any way a sane manager would go for that. The other team's problem is pitching and most managers would not see Vazquez as any sort of upgrade at this point. Lee is struggling right now as well, but unless the guy thinks Vazquez is in for a major turn-around I don't think that trade is ever seriously contemplated.
