Trade N. Morgan for Danks?

Postby Dial A View » Sun May 02, 2010 1:49 pm

My team:
11 Team Standard Yahoo 5x5 Roto League, No Keepers
C: V. Martinez
1B: J. Votto
2B: C. McGehee
3B: Longoria
SS: R. Theriot
OF: M. Kemp, S. Choo, A. Jones
Util: A. Dunn or N. Morgan
SP: A. Wainwright, J. Beckett, J. Lester, J. Lackey, B. Matusz, M. Scherzer, CJ Wilson, R. Romero
RP: J. Soria, B. Wagner
DL: C. Beltran

Guy in my league has Cruz and Granderson on the DL so down to two OF, and wants some speed in his power lineup. He's offering a deal based around Danks and Nyjer Morgan, possibly others added to it. On paper it seems like a good deal, but just had a few questions. While I'm not expecting Danks to keep up this pace all season, will he be a good pitcher all season or is he just lucky right now? Also, will I lose too much speed by giving up Morgan? I seem to be getting SB from a lot of places right now, such as Choo, Longoria and even Votto, but will I miss Nyjer as the season goes on? Also, I would probably have to drop a starter if I made this trade since I would then have nine. Who would I let go of?

His team has: K. Suzuki, Fielder, Cano, Reynolds, Tulo, Cargo, Granderson, Cruz, Pena, Stewart, R. Zimmerman and Bruce as batters, and Ubaldo, Sanchez, Jered Weaver, Lilly, Floyd, Danks, Colby Lewis, Brian Wilson and Lindstrom as his pitchers.

I think Danks is better than Morgan in the long run, and you'll probably be okay without his SBs. You would want to drop Jackson.

You can afford to give up Morgan as Dunn should be your Util. Danks has been a stud, go for it.

I do the deal and like coma said, use Dunn fulltime at your UTIL slot. Drop Jackson for a hot bat.

Still considering this trade. The only issue is that I dropped Edwin Jackson for Matusz in the meantime. Now if I trade Nyjer for Danks, I'm not really sure I have a starter to drop, but in a 1250 max IP league I don't want to roster nine SP.

I guess I could be even more selective in my starts while trying to make 2 for 1 trades. Any thoughts if the Danks trade would still be worth it, and if I should drop anyone afterwards or try to trade later?

Thanks for helping on mine.....

Your starting pitching looks really good to me. I'd be reluctant to give up offense to add more pitching.
