Actually, he didn't...Youk batted 4th and Bay was mostly 5th. Papi was more or less 6th or 7th for most of the second half of the season. VMart was batting third after he was acquired.

Ortiz had exactly 6 AB from the 7 hole last season. 88 AB from the 6 hole. 204 batting 5th.

Ortiz is batting .367/.407/.755 with 6 HR's and 15 RBIs in May so far. He's still striking out a lot, and I know it is a small sample size, but considering April is by far his worst month (.256/.344/.501 compared to .281/.376/.544 career), those jumping off the bandwagon and dropping him, may have acted a bit prematurely.

I say he still sucks in real life. Doing just well enough that Tito will now stick with him causing Lowell to leave. He sucks. I am done with him in fantasy and real life.
